The sun goes down and there is no sunlight or heat from the sun, so it gets colder.
Also, I have my automatic thermostat set so that the house is kept at a lower temperature when I go to bed. I do this to conserve energy and keep my heating costs down.
But in bed the body is less active during sleep so less energy is created from movement. Body temperature is still maintained in a pretty close range by autonomic controls in your body (temperature sensors in your body are around the nape of your neck) and your blankets will help conserve that heat.

By respiration your body gains energy. 60% percent of energy gained by all respiration reactions are turned to body heat. Your metabolism slows down to 5% when your in deep sleep. your respiration rate falls. your body movement slows so your metabolism too. Like an engine slowing and cooling down
