What is your defination of secularism? Is india truly a secular country? Is it working?

what do you personally mean by secularism?? We see a country divided on the basis of religion and caste.Apart from places the differences aer quite clearly visible.what can be done to achieve harmony and trust?

It asserts the freedom of religion, and freedom from religion, within a state that is neutral on matters of belief, and gives no state privileges or subsidies to religions.
When you give freedom to all religions, it is bound have such problems. More than religion we are infested with caste problems. In a country, where, you the rulers have changed, so many times in last 1,000 years, a secular democracy needs some time to settle down. Only, for last 50 years, we are having Secular Democracy.

What is the difference between Hindu and Secular? Secularism is prevaling in India for generations. Only when people ask some previlages on bases of groups and majority denie them they say Secularism Khatare me hai. Why all of us Indian can not be equal as Hindu. ot as Hinduism thought us. I certainly consider India as a secular country. See those parties who are talking about hindu rashtra, do little to achieve hindu rashtra once they come to power. Probably when in power they understand true meaning of secularism.

Hindus accepted all religions and allowed them in India. The other religions believe that they forced their way because of the timidity of the Hindus. Now with anti Hindu rulers in the centre all out effort is on hand to suppress and eradicate Hinduism.
Only HINDUISM is truly secular because it accepts all faiths and believes in one god. Others say they believe in one god who is their god and none else.So the fight continues and will continue like it did for the last so many centuries.

THEY WERE HAVING OXFORD - A NEWLY BORN SCHOOL IF COMPARED TO INDIA -TYPE OF KNOWLEDGE, WHO ARE THE ROOTS IN FRAMING INDIAS CONSTITUTION, SURELY NOT BABA SHAHEB AMBEDKAR, (( THEY HAVE STOLEN IDEAS FROM THE SCHOOLS OF THOUGHTS WHICH WAS JUST KID IF COMPARED TO DEEP PRACTICALLY EXPERIMENTED -FORMULATED PRINCIPAL OF POLITICS--CHANAKYA--MANU--VIDUR--BHARTHARI ,ALL ARE PAST AND FINAL AUTHORITY OF POLITICAL THOUGHTS)).
BUT THE SO CALLED FREEDOM FIGHTERS MIXED ALL THE GREAT THOUGHTS INTO ONE -AND THEY INVENTED THE WORD SECULAR -NO DOUBT THEY HAVE GREAT LOVE FOR INDIA--BUT ARE SUFFERING FROM SUCH HIGH DEGREE OF SUPERIORITY COMPLEX THAT THEY THOUGHT THEMSELVES TO BE THE BEST ON THE SUBJECT. ONE CAN INTUTE THIS FROM THEIR BEHAVIOUR , THEIR STYLE OF TALKING...THEIR STYLE OF WALKING.....ALL GAVE IMPRESSION OF THAT THESE PERSONS ARE HIGHLY SELF CENTERED AND ALL THE LONG EXPERIMENTED PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF POLITICAL GUIDLINES ARE A MERE BUNDLE OF SCRAP BOOKS FOR THEM. THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN IN TOUCH WITH SMELL OF INDIAN SOIL.THEY EVEN DONT KNOW THE MEANING OF "' MATRABHUMI'" "'JANAMBHUMI'".THEY ARE ATTACHED TO PARIS AND BERMINGHAM AND HAVE NEVER FELT HOW A FARMER PLOUGH HIS FIELD IN COLD WINDS.WHAT IS SATISHFACTION....WHAT IS REAL EDUCATION. ...WHAT TYPE OF PEOPLE A NEWLY FREE NATION SHOULD HAVE..... HOW TO ENJOY FREDOM AND EVEN THEY DONOT KNOW WHAT IS MEANT BY FREEDOM.....
THAT'S WHY THEY CAN NEITHER CLEARLY GIVE A PERFECT THEORY OF RELEGION NOR THEY ARE ABLE TO ANTICIPATE THAT THE WORD SECULAR HAVE NO RELEVANCY TO THE POLITICS OF A GREAT NATION LIKE INDIA WHICH IS A LAST AUTHORITY ON POLITICS COMBINED WITH RELIGIOUS THOUGHTS.THEY HAVE NOT READ THE INDIAN BOOKS - HAVING A FINAL WORD AND VERY SIMPLIFIED PRINCIPALS OF POLITICS. AND THE RESULT IS THAT ...INDIA HAVE NATIONAL ANTHOM...NATIONAL BIRD..NATIONAL FLAG....NATIONAL ANIMAL.... BUT INDIA DO NOT HAVE ANY NATIONAL RELEGION - WHAT A SHAME ?
AND THIS FREEDOM OF RELEGION HAVE DEVIDED THE NATION INTO SMALL RELEGION BASED POLITICAL PARTIES WHICH ARE TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS SITUATION.
THE SOLUTION IS THERE.
GIVE A FIRM IDENTITY TO THE NATION. IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF MUSLIM OR CHRISTIANS MAKE IT A ISLAMIC OR CHRISTAIN COUNTRY OR FOLLOW HINDUASIM. BEING A MUSLIM I WILL FEEL BETTER THAN BEING SECULAR. NATIONS ARE HIGHER THAN RELEGIONS. THOSE WHO COME IN WAY SHOULD BE STRICTLY DEALT WITH.THE PROCESS OF PURIFICATION WILL TAKE A VERY SMALL TIME MAY BE IT IS DEEP ROOTED IN BLOOD FROM THE LAST 58 YEARS.
IN MY VEIW SECULAR IS A MEANINGLESS,USELESS,IRRELEVANT WORD FOR A GREAT DEMOCRATIC POLITICAL COUNTRY.

India should pass laws allowing true freedom of religion. Right now, there are laws against converting to Christianity. If someone is a Sikh and they convert to Christianity, they face jail or even death.

All religions should be allowed to be practiced equally, according to an individual's preference.
