starfish and crabs require pristine water quality and a very stable salt level neither one tolerates a fast salt level change so if you are just dropping them them in there from the store and not acclimating them righ that in itself can do it, i keep my salt level in my invert tanks at 1.023-1.024. the main reason they die is poor water quality if you have any ammonia in your tank that will do it and high nitrates will definatley kill them, nitrates are not directly harmfull to fish but it is to invertabrates like stars and crabs. if you use any medicine in your tank like algae medicine ick medicine or copper these all kill inverts

They do need a properly maintained saltwater aquarium. If you have one of those, you need to check your nitrate level. Those crustaceans need a particular amount of nitrates in the water. If you have that , take a sample to your pet stroe and they should be able to check it for that for you. You might need a product called nitrex. Starfish are not the most hardiest of species. You might want to consider the chocolate chip star and a horseshoe crab for starters. Also try peppermint banded shrimp--All saltwater of course-hope this helps and good luck

You commonly want to get rid of it, freshen up crews will eat it, yet you actually dont want lifeless animals decomposing on your marine aquarium. Hermit crabs will die for all time and mainly you dont ought to fret about it, yet lets say a tang or butterfly dies, you commonly want to get it. If it skill transferring the rock so be it. I many times re-set up my rockwork each 2 weeks besides.

You might need to buy some special salt or a type of motor that recycles the water and oxygenates it
