I would like to compile a list of out of print books & literature. Where do I start looking? How do I go about that? These would be books out of print since 1950s. Thanks.

That's going to be a long list, unless you plan to narrow it down by some specific topic.

The BooksinPrint database includes an "out of print" search, but this database is only available by subscription. Check your local public or academic library to see if they have a subscription to BooksinPrint. (yes, this is the online version of the print Books in Print)

You might also try ABEbooks - http://www.abebooks.com
it's a freely available database of rare and out-of-print books. It's not going to be an exhaustive list, since it only shows you what vendors have, and there are a lot of out-of-print books that vendors DON'T have.

When I worked at a bookstore, we had a big fat book listing all the out-of-print books known. You could probably buy it, but I don't know where-- try googling it.
