Please help me determine if I am a racist or a "realist". I worked for the UN for 7 years flying supplies into third world countries...I received no love from those people , only getting shot at. That includes Mexico where I flew C-130's into Southern Mexico , only to be robbed while trying to give food to those hungry. Prior to this, I personally delivered food to projects after graduating from college to try and help make a difference only to be robbed on an average of twice per month. I have two knife wounds to prove it....am i a racists or have I just learned the hard way..

No your not a racist, but someone can probably never truely understand the situation of those people, why they do the things they do. So just keep an open mind and judge on an individual basis rather than grouping a culture/ race/ religion together.

People throw the word "racist" around because it makes them feel better to call other people that. It makes them feel good about themselves to label a person and say, "You are a racist!!!!" - which implies, of course, that the one doing the finger pointing isn't a "racist". This word is overused and worse, misused ...constantly. You have proven yourself to be a good person because you have done more to help people than most (if not all) people who post that you are a "racist" on this site. And you have a right to sit back and wonder, after having gone through all that. I think that ANY human being would. If helping people is something you like doing, don't let the dregs who abused you stop you. There are plenty of people out there who appreciate what you've done, though sadly they are the silent MAJORITY.

Oppressed people seem to understand no language better than anger, collectively and individually. So the different stereotypes that have developed, you must know them, did not come about for no reason such as women only like to shop (one of the less offensive stereotypes placed on women), etc... To be sure, there are women who love to shop and it does not help that we have celebrity that solidify the stereotypes. Paris Hilton comes to mind on several fronts, shopping, blonde, a callousness ...

Living under oppression breeds anger and resentment and some people cannot overcome it. It gets them. So they allow the anger to define them. It does not matter who or how "good" is shown them. Their resentment is too overwhelming. that is the reason that we have the saying that anger blinds you. They will injure anyone who appears to resemble their oppressors, blinding themselves to any good that may come from them. the humbleness of trying to look at this in yourself is the road of enlightenment, but that does not matter to those who have already begun the process of condeming you on your semantics even! "You are a racist to suggest such as thing" as self evaluation. Can you imagine a world were no one gave a damn about personal growth and we had only biggots walking the Earth! Like self evaluation is wrong. Resentment blinds people to those who are trying to do good, to enlighten themselves and others who pass through that journey. It is a sad comment but just on those people.

Once in awhile, people manage to defy their stereotype. But those enlightened individuals still receive the merciless judgement of the stereotype. If they had a voice, they would share their outrage with you.

Do you remember the case of the woman who worked for CARE that was taken hostage in Iraq. Many Irakis were outraged over it.

I so hate to shop, but I still here it from men so I would never get respect from the many who choose to stamp us with that label.

I enslaved no one, but my skin color enrages some people. And I helped so many underprivledged children. I simply recognize the anger and resentment that comes from being oppressed and that my skin color too often is a reminder of where it originated. It doesn't stop the hurt, but I recognize what fuels it. Again, I would never get respect from those who are ruled by their anger.

Sadly, the list of oppressed peoples is rather extensive which necesarily means that their are millions of anry people out there.

However, having enlightened individuals pass through you life is one of the most beautiful experiences that humans can have. But you can only experience it if you are open to it.That is the only way to recognize it.

Stay open so that when you pass through the life of another enlightened person, you can give them moments of peace in this struggle we call life.

Well, the fact that you are referring to people of other races as "Coloreds" basically answers your own question. This is a highly disrespectful term. Unfortunately, you had a bad experience with a small group of people. You can't take this and assume a whole population behaves that way. Because truth be told there are bad people in every corner of the world in every society, race and culture, even in yours. Can we assume that all white people are bad because of Jeffery Dahmer (who favored Asians and Blacks), Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, etc...??
