I think only advertisement of tobacco is prohibited on Internet (as I havent seen such promotions for a while) and well I dont think selling cigarettes online is against the law because many websites are still up and running the business as I recall. However certain age-limitations apply to the buyers.

it's quite legal to buy them over the net, contrary to what anyone else says.
The ruling yesterday was nothing to do with the legal issue, it was to do with taxation.
If you go abroad, within the EU, you can purchase at what ever price is charged, tax inclusive, tobacco products for your own use and import them back into UK with no more tax to pay.
If you do not go abroad to collect these yourself you have to pay import tax at the same rate as is normal tax on tobacco. The ruling tried to have that over turned so that you didn't have to travel. The court ruled against the argument.
In essence, buy as much as you like online, to stay legal pay the tax.

We have some cheap cigs that we brought over from the Caribbean all the tax has been paid on them but they are still remarkably cheap. We can't sell them, in fact we can't even give them away and they are here in this country. I am surprised anyone would buy on the net people don't seem to trust anyone and I guess rightly so.

Getting cheap foreign ones? It's not legal. There was a ruling by the European Court yesterday. You can't buy booze over the net either

http://dirtcheapbutts.com
I'm still umming and arring about whether to get any, because your only allowed 2 cartons.
By the way, if you check out this site, you'll come across loads of cigars before you get to the cigarettes.

After the report on the TV the Customs will be on the lookout for boxes of the appropriate size and you will end up getting hammered for tax.
