I'm proud to be white but when I cross the line and act like being white is better than anything else, that's being racist and that's wrong. The same applies to other races as well. Be proud of who you are and respectful of others.

A better question might be, "Why do you feel compelled to be?"
To be proud of one's background, say that your ancestors come from a particular country, is fine. Myself, I identify to some extent that my ancestors were Dutch. And I appreciate that and what they did and why they came to America in 1825.
But other than that, what makes my ethnicity special? Nothing. It only matters to me and maybe a few others who might be interested in history. My place in our culture and society has little if anything to do with my ancestry. That's not to say that my ancetors didn't have it differently, but almost 200 years later, what's the point?
People of different ethnic groups feel compelled to find others like them. I think it might be a human impulse. I like to find like minded people, too, but their ethnicity is irrelevant unless it is of some interest to discuss, e.g., I love to talk with a Jewish friend about his culture.
The problem is that we've been pushed to the edge of identifying ourselves with our ethnicity by incessent media culture and marketing (yes, it's easier to sell things to people if you can identify their traits and habits, therefore similar people are molded into thinking and acting certain ways so they might buy more stuff). It's counterproductive if the objective of America is pluralism, let alone assimilation.
And a "push back" of people who have been minimized if not demonized for the past 35 years (white males) won't solve anything- in fact, it will only continue the whole problem.
Try to remember that there is really only one race- human. DNA tells us this is so. Take the high road and try to make progress rather than push back.
Be independent.
Dont' be a victim.

Who ever said to you it was wrong to be proud of your race? The problem comes in when you believe your race is superior over other races. Historically, white people have felt an innate superiority over other races, and that is what is wrong.

some human beings in my lifestyle are happy with being russian and those are the human beings who finally end up discriminating and searching down on human beings quite of colour. i'm chuffed of who i'm yet i'm not proud. it makes me unhappy that human beings push me to tutor my toddlers russian as a substitute of english. I stay in us of a of america i'm coaching them english then russian and that i could slap their hand for showing a proud attitude. proudness creates boundries.

we can and should be proud of what we are.we need more white only organizations.not to be racist, but to balance out the scale.they have many black only organizations, even have all black t.v.channels,but if white folks did that it would be a crime.so rise up and have whatever white groups you want to have, and one day we can watch the cracker channel on t.v.

Hi Tom Cruise! Congratulations on your wedding day
I think having pride in your culture or race is wrong because it leads to jealous then hate, but having appreciation for it is acceptable because we all want to know where we came from, our struggles, our triumphs, etc.
Oh, tell Kat hi for me. Later!
