This sounds a lot like a Solifugid (also known as camel spiders, wind scorpion and sun spider). While solfugids are arachnids, they, like scorpions, are in a different order than spiders. Typically, solfugids live in tropical regions where they inhabit arid environments such as deserts.
Technically, they do have only eight legs, as do all arachnids. Their foremost appendages are merely modified pedipalps. Most spiders have pedipalps, but they are generally significantly smaller than their legs. Solifugids do not use their pedipalps for walking, but rather as extended sensory organs that help them hunt. Their pedipalps are held above the ground when in motion.
Solifugids also have a pair of chelicerae or pincers. Theirs are the same things as a scorpion's pincers except much shorter. This would give the appearance of having four jaws. Spiders, on the other hand, only have two fangs.
While solifugids may posess a nasty "bite" with their powerful chelicerae, they are regarded as harmless to humans. Contrary to common folklore, they aren't even venomous except for one species in India.
They can also be beneficial to humans in the fact that their primary prey consists of insects and some small vertibrates like lizards or mice.

I think what you saw was proably A Solfugid, these are what are commonly referred to as sun spiders. They are technically not true spiders (Aranaemorphae) but they are still arachnids. They are beige in color, and can sometimes have darker markings which can be similar to dark blue and purple. The fifth pair of legs are actually what are called pedipalps, they are homologous to the pedipalps of a spider, and are not in fact walking legs, they are more closely tied to reproduction and to sensory function.
These critters are only found in warm regions so I am assuming you are from the souther states, central states or western Canada, or over seas in a warmer region.
These Solifugids are not incredibly common, and when provoked can deliver a nasty bite, their jaws are in the shape of two pairs of horizontal scissors which can be quite damaging. They are cool to look at, but not too fun to find in your shoe by mistake....haha
I hope this helps!

Spiders only have 8 legs. The othe r 2 things act as arms. I forget what they are called. I think they're mandibles or something like that. Spiders are good to have in your garden. They eat the bad insects! Did you know that spiders are not insects!

Crabs and lice have ten legs. It's probably not a crab. Some lice, parasitising on dogs, can have an abdominal width of up to one cm (usually grey) when filled with blood.
Scorpions seem to have 10 legs, but their pinchers are mouth parts, not legs.

maybe it was a freak spider, like sometimes you get animals born with extra limbs, like once i saw a 6 legged piglet (of course the 2 extra legs didn't move like the rest), but maybe it was just an odd spider, like a retarded spider.
