I'd like to know what is involved in writing (besides the obvious)? Is there much of a cost? How do you find a reputable publisher, and what is the cost involved with going through a publisher?

When I was younger I'd write short stories sometimes, but I think I threw them out because of running out of ideas. And I want to get back into it again. Is it really something that's worth it? I'm actually not much of a reader at all myself, unless it's something I write, and from browsing other questions I saw a few people suggested reading other books about writing...not something I'm interested in. So far what I have going for me is good grammar and spelling, and my ideas are usually more on the creepy side...Psycopathic killer type thing. So if I wanted to go in that route, would it be good to find a move bio on a serial killer, or should I just go with the ideas in my head?

A writer needs: Imagination, some Language Skills, method to write it down (ie Pen/paper, PC/Word Processor), and Time.

For Stories, especially more so for Longer story like Novels, It is a good idea to actually to have a plan. I myself find this works well, as all I need to do is to move the narrative along to the next point.

As for the Story's plot, I can not help you, as that is a personal question. I myself would suggest going with Imagination.

The cost is dependant on several things. But Reputable Publishers Shouldn't really be charging you money.

I suggest reading this site as it is free: http://hollylisle.com/fm/Articles/FAQS.html

just keep writing and above all read read read especially in the genre of stories that you wish to write there are several really good books about writing that explain about getting an agent and publishers although most publishers will not except manuscripts until you have an agent they just can not afford the time to look thru millions of stories every month. I contacted several writers thru their website and I write to them every so often and two of them have been very helpful with hints for me some just say hi because they are busy writing themselves and have way too many fans I also went to local small book store and talked with one of the owners who writes and he was very helpful. best thing to look for in your area is a writers group that critiques each others work their is a bunch of writers groups on line too but you already know the bottom line
write
right
