There are dozens of perfectly innocent ways for a girl to break her hymen. But virginity isn't about hymens - it's about never having had sex before. A girl who broke her hymen riding a horse, who has never had sex, is a virgin - no doubt about it.

The hymen is hugely over-rated.

A medical study done (sorry can't remember the details) found that only 1 in every 5 baby girls have hymens. The modern girl uses tampons, rides bikes and horses, run around, climb trees, and therefore it is very easy for her to stretch her hymen. I am using a menstrual cup, which is worn like a tampon, but it is much bigger than a tampon, and the producers actually warn that it can stretch and tear the hymen when it is removed.

And some have vibrators/dildo's shaped like a real penis. If you, someone else or herself plays or masturbates with her it can also cause the hymen to tear, it depends on her own anatomy. It further depends on penis size, the size of her own vagina, and how relaxed she is when you penetrate her.

If you say "blockade" what do you imply? Stiffness? Something physical? If a woman has been celibate for a long time, and she is suddenly penetrated again, the man can assume she is a virgin because she feels like one- she is stiff inside.

What is a virgin? If she had sex with a girl before, but not with a man, physically she can still have a hymen, but is still a virgin? How do you define sex- exclusively as penis-in-vagina? What is a virgin today? Very abstract concepts!

Please don't think if she did not bleed or if you penetrated her easily that she is not a virgin. That would be very unfair. Not all women bleed or are "blocked" the first time.

No. Virginity is the state of not ever having had sexual intercourse, that is, of not ever having a man's penis penetrate her vagina.
The "blockade" is called a hymen, it's a thin piece of skin that protects the inner vagina. Of course, it is not completely shut, that's why it's possible for virgins to have their periods.
The opening of the hymen over the years widens gradually because of the girl's engaging in activities that require leg-opening e.g horse riding, cycling, even tree-climbing.
Most young girls are more physically active nowadays unlike long ago, hence the "hymen test" is no longer a 100% proof of virginity.

Only if you define losing your virginity as "breaking the hymen", which often happens without sexual intercourse having taken place. However if you choose this definition of viriginity then males can never lose their virginity as they don't have it in the first place. Most of us choose a definition of virginity along the lines of "never having had sexual intercourse" and therefore by definition you can't lose your virginity without having had sex.

Yes. A hymen can be ruptured through strenuous exercise, disease, accident or masturbation.
The presence of a hymen is no big deal, other than symbolically, and they can be surgically "restored" for a modest (for plastic surgery) cost.
Cheers.

Addendum - Isn't it weird that most of the respondents to this are male?

Yes as a result of physical exercise tearing the hymen or "deflowering" the girl. Sexually she is still a virgin as this is a state governed by whether she has had sexual intercourse or not. She is not virgin intacta that is all

If you define virginity as not having a hymen, yes. This definition of virginity is no longer applicable with lives girls lead now.

It is possible for a woman's hymen to be broken without having had sex. Internal tampons, for instance, can do this.
