Our voters just banned public smoking. I am a hard core smoker who quit 12 days ago cold turkey...yee ha! I don't believe that smokers should force non-smokers to breathe our smoke. It's not our right to do that. However, I don't think it should be up to the public to tell business owners whether they want to make their own business smoking or non-smoking. I do believe the business owner should be able to decide. After all, smoking is legal (make it illegal like we do other drugs if it's so bad) and the business owner put alot of money, sweat and tears to be the owner. This is what free enterprise is all about. Businesses who want to cater to smokers should be allowed to and those who don't shouldn't have to. The employees would need to get another job if they don't like smoking...after all, it is free will to be employed...we aren't forced labor here! Businesses who catered to smokers would be hit with higher insurance prices, etc.

wondermmom: Some of us folks think that the next election will include issue #3 to ban obesity!!! Health department will have scales at all grocery stores. You will have to step on scale and enter height and weight and medical issues. Any item run through bar code scanner that doesn't meet healthy criteria, you will not be allowed to purchase this. After all, doesn't it disgust the "majority" to look at obese people??

Well lets face it the government is always out to make a buck. What should be done is if you want smoking in your establishment you have to have a smoking license. The way bar and restuarant have liquor license. Have signs posted Saying smoking establishment. The govenment will reap the rewards be getting extra money. Smoker will still have a place to smoke. Limit the liscense like they do the liqour license.
But just an idea.
You know what's even scarier then the fact that a smoking ban passed is what's next? The majority has spoken. What will the majority ban next?

Although I'm not from Ohio, I personally think it sucks. Where I work is going smoke-free in November of next year. I don't see the harm in an outdoor smoke hut, but it will be nice when my co-workers aren't sneaking out to smoke all the time. Our 15 minute morning & afternoon breaks turn into three 5-minute breaks in order to go out more often. Gets annoying.

Well said, I agree. What about smoking outdoors, how many parts per billion of smoke are you getting from my smoke mixed in with the atmosphere of the whole planet?

I'll understand the smoking ban when they stop letting people get skunk drunk and then go out on the highway and wipe out entire families with one crash.
