No.

I think the England team has too many faults:-
1. Team manager past his sell-by date, and has stuck to favourite players rather than moving on to the future.
2. Wrong captain. It should be Andrew Strauss. Flintoff was ridiculoudly over-hypped after the Ashes win. there is no way he is in the same class as Botham. When will Flintoff ever take 34-8 and make a century, or score a century in each innings and take five wickets twice? Flintoff's good, but not that good. And he suffers from Botham's problem that when example has run out he is a very limited captain.
3. Second best keeper. It is not as thopugh Geraint Jones even deleivers consistentely as a batsman. A better keeper would imporve the bowler's confidence.
4. Wrong fast bowlers. The problem is not Harmison: good captaincy could motivate him. It is the other fast bowlers who are better suited to English pitches.
5. Wrong spinner. Panesar is an attacking spinner, so he is the one to play. It is negative to be scared that he may get hit for sixes on an off day.

England should do what they can now to get the best results, and at least win one test. But they will also need to think what to do in the longer term in relation to better management and bringing on new palyers. Not least, they have lost several players like Vaughan and Jones to career threatening injuries that need to be addressed by better management of playing demands and training regimes so that the same does not happen with future players.

Finally, it was the Ashes win in England that was the aberration. The standard of Englsih cricket at international level, particularly in one-day events, has been dire for years.

England will not win the next four tests against Australia. Never has a side been more determined to win a series (apart from maybe England in 2005) than Australia.

They have pace (Lee), accuracy (McGrath & Clarke) and the best bowler of all time (Warne). In the batting stakes they have arguably the most consistent batsmen since Don Bradman (Ricky Ponting), two openers who each average over 45 (Langer & Hayden) and the explosive wicket keeper batsmen Ghilchrist.

If England stand any chance of winning one match let alone the ashes we need to gel as a unit, introduce an attacking spin bowler and a wicket keeper who can keep wicket rather than bat a little bit. They also need Flintoff, Strauss & Pietersen to average over 50 with the bat and for Harmison to find his aggression and spirit that have been sadly lacking for the last two years.

But hey I am optimistic that we will play better than we have in this test and will catch up by the third test. My worry is that it will be too late by then.

They haven't lost this one - yet! I'm an optimistic realist! We have only ever won four tests in an Ashes series on four occasions (all in Australia), but the last time was in 1978/79 (England 5 Australia 1). Our team was considerably stronger then and the Aussies, suffering from the Packer intrusion, were very weak. Australia now are by far the best Test team in world cricket and will not lose four matches on the trot. If they do I'll eat your hat!

probably 4-1 if england play well but at the moment it looks like a 5-0 whitewash for australia. England- Kevin P will star. Australia probable Shane Warne. I think england are definately at an all time low after losing the Ashes

I would like to see them win the next 4 tests but i think it will be a up hill struggle, we are missing Michael Vaughan and Simon Jones, i do hope they play Panasar though, I have just seen the reply from Englands batters it does not give good reading, We have to believe in ourselves bowl the ball at there feet give them plenty to think about. PS just to remind people it as always been said to win the ashes a Yorkshire man has to be Captain.

I am a realist! We have not got a hope in hell of winning the next 4 test matches

No but then again they dont have to, all they need to do is win the same amount of tests as Australia and they retain the ashes it is as simple as that.

History is against them, aside from the fact that Australia are a better team. So the answer is a resounding 'No'

well they certainly f*cked up the first test! (opinion made at 12.30 pm Oz time: Oz 9/602 declared - ENG 5/109 LMAO) and NO, not a chance, Englands just here to return our Ashes!

We dont NEED to win the next four tests...we only need to draw all five to keep the Ashes, which is still quite possible.
