All of these answers are based on personal preference and chance. Just because some people don't have problems with manufacturers doesn't mean that they are amazing. Do some research (try to find results from a Consumer Reports test) and ask around. Every company has it's own problems.

Macs are great and expensive, but if you want to upgrade more than RAM you better have some cash laying around to buy a new one. Of course you don't have to worry much about viruses or spyware, but if you're not familiar with OSX you may want to stick with a PC.

IBM has there own share of problems.

HP/Compaq has some issues. (I know several people that have had HP/Compaq machines HD crash, power supply issues, mobo issues)

Gateway is decent (i own one and had to replace the DVD burner which was covered by the warranty, but Gateway doesn't make the drives so they can't be to blame) and haven't had any driver, motherboard, or power supply issues.

Dell is kind of iffy...Problems with dells can be very sporadic. The less manufacturer based drivers the better.

Alienware and Voodoo used to final time I checked. the two have been devoured up by utilising Dell and HP, respectively, so i don't be attentive to in the event that they are nevertheless stable or no longer. do no longer waste your money on a mac, you may get a much extra suitable laptop for the money from a small fanatic laptop boutique (maingear, digital hurricane, clevo, eurocom, hypersonic, and so on.) Apple help is usual and then disappears while the guarantee expires.

Apple- Virtually no viruses
- Super fast
- Lightweight
- Great OS
- Built in webcam
- Good battery life
- Magsafe power adapter ( If you trip over the cord, your laptop will NOT go flying, the cord will just unplug without damage to the plus or the computer)
-Great design
----------------Take my advice...stick with Apple
