I hate them! They're either worn by really rich people as a status symbol, pimps, social climbing wannabees or chavs who've bought a fake one from a tacky shop in a Turkish resort. I can't see the attraction anyway because I think they are ugly things. I buy my watches in places like Next for between £15 and £40 which I think look really nice.

anyone who can easily afford a rolex does not show off about it, why would they.
People who buy them on HP show off because its a big deal to them.
Your question and comments say more about you than a rolex does about the wearer.
If you've got a few million in the bank, you are not going to go to Next to spend £15-£40 as described above. A few grand is trivial and a multi-millionnaire thinks nothing of it. Why go to Next when you can be let through an invitation-only jewellery door and be well-treated ?
It is people who cannot afford them that are making an issue out of this. The buyers don't give it a second thought.
Those who think they are worn by pimps, chavs and wannabees obviously do not mix in wealthy social circles.Again, this shows more about your social position than anyone wearing a rolex.

Most people become passionate about important things, such as the enviroment, small children having limbs blown off by landmines or about all the countries in the world who have been at war for years and years.
The argument for or against wearing an expensive watch seem rather pathetic in comparison.
I also thing Michael H is bang right in what he says, i'm a millionaire, i also have a house with a pool, a £75k Porsche and buying a Rolex for me was out of the change in my back pocket.

My stepdad is 60 and got his Rolex as a gift for being at his company for 30 years. I hardly think he qualifies as being a "bling" man. I think as with anything, too much is a bad thing. One or two nice expensive pieces of jewellry look lovely, dripping in them looks cheap.
Rolexes are actually better than most watches as they have lifetime guarantees (as long as you don't get the fake ones, that really is tacky).
I think you need to worry less about other people and concentrate on yourself.

calm down you seem to be very uptight about people who's only problem is they like nice things, i own a rolex and a cartier watch and i shop in harrods and nottinghill most of the time. I am definitely not flash or a showoff infact most of the time i make sure by watch is covered, as i do not want people to see it..

Frankie,
You and me have a timex or citizen and we're okay with spending $19.95 USD.
Your anger at people floss'n a rolex is a bit extreme. Seriously, you're fixated. Take some breaths and relax. Consider taking a yoga or mediation class.
