ok, others have told you what a ratio is

now you need to be careful when answering questions regarding ratios

for example

If a question was asking you the ratio of boys to girls and figures given were 5 boys and 10 girls

then the answer would be there are 5 boys to 10 ten girls

written like this:

5:10 or cancelled down to 1:2 (divided both sides by 5 to get the lowest ratio)

If however, the same figures applied but the question asked you what the ratio of girls to boys were, you would answer:

2:1 (there are two girls to every one boy)

you need to read the questions carefully

How To Work Out Ratio

2016-10-01 23:07:02 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

To work out a ratio it’s best to think of grouping it together.

For example,

35 people, 20 have red tops and 15 have green tops.

Therefore the ratio if 20:15

However, this can be simplified, as both the numbers are divisible by 5

The Ration becomes 4:3

First, let's define what a ratio is. In its most basic form a ratio is a comparison of two or more quantities in a particular order. So, if there are 4 red cars and 7 blue cars in a car park the ratio of red cars to blue cars is 4:7. Always check check to see the words used. For example, if the question asked for the ratio of blue to red cars then the ratio would be 7:4. Ratios can be expressed as a fraction. My examples would be 4/7 and 7/4 respectively.
You can have ratios or more than two quantities. If we represent these quantities as x, y and z, then the ration of x to y to z would be x:y:z.

easy- for example A is 400 and B is 200 the ratio would be 400:200

you then find there lowest common multiple the easiest way is by dividing 400/200 (400 divide by 200) = 2/1 therefore the ratio of A to B is 2:1 (or 2 to 1)

ratio tells you how one of the two quantities varies with respect to the other.if when one increases the other also increases at the same rate the variation is said to be direct and the ratio direct
if one decreases at the same rate as the other increases the variation is said to be inverse and the ratio inverse ratio
if two quantities vary directly their quotient will be the same and if they vary inversely their product will be the same
some examples of the direct variation are time and distance, speed and distance, work and energy ......
inverse variation speed and time, time and work....
