Three questions.....

Are Americans more safe?

No. Not yet, and probably will never be.

Certainly Bush will take claim now and in the next twenty years or so, that his efforts have kept Americans safer since 9/11, but that's pure baloney.

Department of Homeland Security was a ploy to create more government jobs, to fill a need for a growing influx of residents from everywhere.

Question No.3:

Department of Homeland Security incorporates previous governmental agencies under one umbrella, so as to scrutinize imports better and coordinate processing of immigrants.

My main concern is that the first official selected to head this agency quit because he wanted more pay so as to finance his children's college education (former gov. Ridge of Pa.).

That tells me something smells in this set-up.

Oh boy! A chase your tail and try to catch it kind of question. Does the name Michael Chertoff give you warm fuzzy feelings of security? Let's all skip down memory lane to a place called the gulf coast. FEMA, Chertoff's baby, is in charge of doing something for the folks affected by Katrina. Let's ask if they feel happier and safer. FEMA, Homeland Security...where are you? They must all be busy, can't find them anywhere. Maybe the president is awarding them medals for their response during that horrible time of crisis in New Orleans and other parts of the coast. They talk and they pat each other on the back while America suffers, that's what they do. Oh, and they spend money buying trailers that can't be placed upon a flood plain. Peace.

All the DHS is is a dept. where several (last # I heard was 33) different agencies of the government report to. I don't believe that the DHS actually has many agents, they just incorporated many departments, everywhere from the TSA (airport security) to Border Patrol. I believe even the Coast Guard reports to them sometimes.

The plan is that the DHS can easily convey orders to the different departments in an emergency. However, the DHS seems to have too much power, since they are the say-all of all these different agencies.

Well in many ways, yes. DHS is actually a combo of existing agencies like the Coast Guard, INS, Border Patrol, etc who were under Treasury, Commerce & Justicce Depts. The idea was to put all under one central Agency. Plus they added a new force the, TSA. Prior to TSA, the airlines handled security( I was one of them for a while). Now they have people paid twice the money to do the same job???? Same results......

Things that were lax have been tighened up thianks to DHS. And aside from bad flying Yankees pitchers, Planes have stop hitting NYC. SO Yes WE are all happier......

the element you ought to evaluate is that as undesirable because of the fact the airport protection each and every person is on the instant - that's a large progression over the way they have been 10 years in the past. the biggest matters we've with airport protection is how this is funded via Congress. as a consequence each and every state gets a assured minimum share of the airport protection money - inspite of what share airfields they have or how many human beings fly via those airports. as a consequence small little used airports get lavish quantities of protection investment consistent with passenger jointly as super, busy airports get quite little. a much extra clever way of investment airport protection may be a $a million.00 tax on each and each airplane cost ticket with eighty% of that money being allotted to the departure airport. this might decrease down on the wait and hassle of passing via protection because of the fact the busier airports might have the flexibility to arise with the money for proportionally bigger quantities of equipment and workers. (i'm of the opinion that ninety 5% of the proceedings approximately airport protection are extra the consequence of inconvenience than surely 'loss of freedoms.')

We are safe from everything but our own criminal and corrupt president who can come to your house and whisk you away for the mere violation of disagreeing with him, put you in a secret prison and throw away the key, without benefit of a lawyer or a writ of habias corpus. You have lost an important rights as a free person in America.

No, of course not. Bush and the Repub congress have granted themselves the 'right' to arrest anyone for any reason. What does that mean? It means America is dead.
