I was going to suggest a CD of music from his era, but I think that would go over your spending limit. There is not much you can do for that amount. How about a chocolate Santa? Or a really nice mug if he is a coffee/tea drinker.

Depending upon the man, everything from an inexpensive figurine to wall plaque, or even a little stuffed animal he could place on his desk may go over nicely.
I am a male had have recieved things like the above--sometimes the uniqueness of the thought is what is most appreciated.

Bottle of wine, maybe a funny book like the New Scientist books that ask odd questions about the world (like "why don't penguins feet freeze?"), maybe a little desk game, or a box of good sweets.

If he is religious, you could get a bookmarker from a christian store.
Maybe a funny pair of x-mas boxer shorts.
12 pack of beer
Case of pop.
A batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies in a tin.
A lighter, if he smokes.
A batch of fudge....I make the one on the marshmallow cream jar and it would cost about that to make for him and it is easy to make.
A license plate holder.
A team mug.
Well, that's all I can think of. Hope this helps.
