Someone, a white guy, asked me recently, "Why is your skin so light?" I'm black, but I'm not dark. Do whites think blacks should all be dark skinned?

I think you should email this question to Michael Richards and get his opinion on it!

This is an example: Halle Berry has light skin. Michael Jordan has much darker skin but both are considered black.

I think that there are certain physical features that define race more than skin tone because some blacks are quite light skinned.

no, not all whites are that narrow minded. It would be like a black person asking us "why are all of you so pasty white?". Everyone has different skin pigmentation....even identical twins have differences. That's what makes this world a beautiful place! Isn't that why we enjoy Autumn? The viewing of the different colors that the trees display? I love the fact that we're all different....and it shouldn't matter what hue anyone's skin is. Humans are just another breed of animal...people accept the fact that we have different kinds of dogs and cats, why can't people accept that we have different kinds of people? (simple logic) Please don't think that everyone is that ignorant...you just keep being the beautiful you that you are!

To answer your question - NO.

Anyway - he is NOT saying you have to be dark. He is merely making an observation that you have lighter skin than what the black population he has come across in his lifetime.

Really, I wouldn't lose sleep over words like that.
There are more important things in life to worry about, like.... what is the price of eggs in China?

Probably just another case of someone opening their mouth before engaging their brain. I would think the majority of us know that black AND white people come in all different shades.

It's funny how calling someone white is O.K. calling someone black is O.K. but calling someone brown is hugely offensive. Why is that I wonder? I've always thought mixed race people were very nice looking so it should never be a problem. People who are mixed race should be proud of that fact and celebrate both sides of their heritage. Of course it's better to call someone by their name rather than a colour.

It was an inappropriate comment. Sounds to me like the guy was an idiot. If we were all the same shade of grey it would be a dull world.

a guy said that to me too...he was like 'oh clearly you dont get out much' but then again another has told me he finds fair chicks attractive so it depends on the person. In my opinion there are alot of guys who prefer tanned girls, but there are some who don't,luckily.
