you'll need 2 things, first a wireless access point, whether thats the current dsl connection with built in wireless capabilities or a router or wireless hub or a bridge or whatever. Secondly you need to get a wireless card for the laptop, its called a pcmcia wireless card, and there are quite a few to choose from.
Go to Tigerdirect.com or Newegg.com, or just about anywhere that sells computer stuff and look up wireless networking and see what is available, some wireless routers come bundled with cards some don't, if you already have a wireless connection then all you need is the card, you have to decide a few things.
How far from the access point do you want to be able to go (this will determine which type of card to get).....how much are you willing to spend (this will determine not only type but also brand)....do you want to have an adapter for wireless (ethernet bridge/relay point gives more range) or just a wireless connection, do you want that to be connected through the pcmcia slot, usb, or ethernet?
too many possibilities really to give a concise answer.
Start with "do I have a wireless router?" and go from there.

Toshiba commonly makes quite reliable and reliable laptops. I once had a Toshiba satellite tv for pc 1410-S173 and lasted me round 4 years previously I bought it so i'd have some money to placed in the route of a extra up therefore far computing device. you won't be able to bypass incorrect with Toshiba's, Lenovo ThinkPad's, HP's, or Sager's. it surely relies upon on what your getting the computing device for (gaming, corporation use, abode use, college use, and so on).

A wireless Network Interface Card (NIC) that pops into your NIC card slot on your lap top, and a wireless router. Both have little antennas on them. Brands, I don't know what's best, I use Linksys cause it was cheaper, it works.
