Yes it does, but not those stereotypes. It reinforces for me the fact that Dwarves are noble and Elves have old souls.
Actually, I like the Elves being pointy-eared hippy types....maybe that's why I relate to them so well, among other things.
As for Trolls, I am really not sure.

Well, Tolkien basically invented those kindreds, so his vision of them should be the stereotype.
Elves get kind of a bad name when it comes to Santa and Keebler, so in that case where that kindred has been hijacked, the answer would be no.
Dwarves seem to have remained pretty Tolkien-true as viewed by the public eye. So yes for them.
Trolls have been changed by the under-the-bridge tales, so fourteen foot tall idiotic brutes don't really mesh with the stereotypes there either.

Tolkien started it all. If he said they were bearded axe wielders(which he does describe them as) than they are just that. And elves are not hippies. THey kick the crap out of orcs and other stuff, like when they invaded Lorien.

Yes, it does. But I thought that's how elves, dwarves, and trolls were supposed to look like.. I wonder if they are portrayed differently in the numerous sci-fi/fantasy books out there.. To add to the stereotype, we have the popular game, Warcraft.

But they really are bearded axe-wielders, pointy-eared hippies, and so so somethings!
Also, they're in a realm of fantasy. Tolkien just was saying it as he saw it.

If you have read Pratchett you would know that dwarfs are bearded and with axes. Both - male and female.
And trolls are more intelligent when it is cold.
