No not at all. The one problem with Christmas is too many people go over board spending way too much money they do not have and end up paying for it the rest of the year. Just buy what you can afford. Don't go over board especially with the new baby coming. If they don't understand will that is their problem not your problem.
One of the best ways to solve those kinds of problems is for every one to agree on a set amount to spend on each other's gifts like at office parties. Tell them what you are spending and tell them not to spend any more on your gifts.

It really IS the thought that counts. You are right to save money for your baby. You are also kind to spend as much on your niece as ever. Consider suggesting to your extended family that you all cut back on the gifts for the adults, and focus on the kids. You might be surprised at their relief! You could also suggest that everyone in the family pull one name of another family member out of a hat, and then everyone just buys one nice gift instead of a lot of littler things. Do be sure and state a spending limit. Merry Christmas!

How would they know what you have spent?
I am a bargain shopper and I always look for deeply discounted gifts that allow me to appear to give more than I pay.
And I understand where you are coming from, I have 11 nieces & nephews and when I did not have a small child I spent $20-$30 each (but I started buying in January!) Since my baby girls arrival, and a downturn in manufacturing directly affecting my company, this year I am still debating if I can swing $5 per kid. I'm sure I'll find something cool, and I'm sure you can too.
Congrats on the upcoming baby & marriage
Happy Holidays

It is not bad at all.
A few years ago my husband and I had no money for Christmas. We scarpped together soem to buy for the kids. For the adults we wrote letters telling each one what we loved about them and how they had impacted our lives. Too often we don't talk about our favorite memories or how much we really feel about family and friends until they are gone.
Those letters they will all remember. The items you buy on sale will be forgotten in a few months.
Congrats on the baby. Try not to over extend yourself physically, the holidays can just get too busy.
Happy holidays!

No. We all have to "cut our cloth accordingly". The cost is irrelevant. Its the love that goes along with that gift that counts.

It really is true that the amount you spend doesn't matter. People understand.

sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Perhaps you might want to inform the others in your family of yoru plans and the reasons for them. I'm sure they will understand.
