20 GB?
I would bet that this system is pretty old.
That means that it will have a relatively slow processor and pretty low memory.
Would it be at all possible to get a new computer?
I have no way of being sure, but I would guess that your current drive is "IDE" or now called "Parallel ATA" or "PATA".
You can upgrade your hard drive to 80 GB for less than $100 if you do it yourself.
If you have room in your desktop, you can add it as a second drive (VERY quick and easy!).
If you don't have room for 2 hard drives, or if you are talking about a laptop, you will need to re-load your operating system and all of your applications.
Do you have the software CDs of Floppies for this?
You may have a hard time finding an 80 GB hard drive "In Stock" at a store.
You may have to get one on-line.
You could try www.outpost.com.
I would recommend the "Seagate" brand.
My Second choice would be "Maxtor".
Western Digital is a little cheaper, but I had several of their drives fail after less than 2 years.
If you buy a new hard drive it will almost certainly come with hardware installation instructions.
I wouldn't recommend buying a used hard drive unless you know the seller pretty well.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!

For a desktop, buy an 80 GB hard disk (although you will get a 200 GB hard disk for almost the same cost today) and put it as the Primary Master and put your 20GB hard disk as the Primary Slave. Keep you optiacl drives as Secondary master / Slave.

several ways to add more hard drives. If your only adding a hard drive to existing computer most mother boards alow you 4 units. Bad side is 4 units include CD CD burners DVD's
Example being if you have two units using drive options, such as a cd player and a CD burner that leaves two options. The hard drive you have is one of them so end result is you can add one more drive.
You can get an external drive that connects over your USB port or you can get a SCSI card and ad several units off of it and you can have more than one on your motherboard if you have the card slots available to use it.
Lots of options and ideas on how to do it. You don't sound very computer savy so I would suggest the external drive using USB port easy to use and won't have to pay anyone to set up drives for use, but if your comfortable with it if you have room ad another drive.
