Every woman is different & every baby's appetite is different. 'They say' that, normally, newborn babies drink about 2-4 oz. about every 2-4 hours. However, my son was drinking 8-10 oz about every 2-4 hours and MY body couldn't keep up. But I had a friend who was making too much milk for her BABY to keep up with. Most of the time, your body will regulate to what your baby needs. But make sure to drink enough water so that you can make all that you can. And eat food high in 'good fat', like milk & cheese to make sure your milk provides enough nutrition & calories to your baby. And contact your OB to find a lactation consultant for any concerns - I wish that I had!

The amt a woman can pump varies WIDELY, and it doesnt have necessarily anything to do with how much milk is being produced. The let-down reflex (whereby the milk in the breast is released) can be stronger in some than others. I found that expressing by hand gave me more than with the pump, and I could get twice as much if my daughter was in the same room than if she wasnt in sight. So, all that to say there is no set amt. If you can get 4oz total, I think you're doing fine. If you can't, try different techniques like pumping while your baby is nursing, or at the least looking at a picture if your baby isnt around. Hope that helps.

Depends on many factors. I think you need not worry about the quantity as much as the quality. I pumped 2-3 ounces per breast. Sometimes less, depending on how much my baby ate. I ate rice to increase my milk supply and drank 8 oz.'s of water 15-20 minutes before feeding or pumping! Congrats and good luck!

I successfully breastfed (without supplementing) my daughter for 2 1/2 years and could not successfully pump with either a hand pump or a double electric breast pump. Please take a look at the website I have included below. I found it to be very helpful.
