We lived in the Bahamas for many years and April is the most beautiful month with the blooming poincianas. And it is less crowded. Late March may be getting into that time. The weather is lovely. It can be chilly in January, February and early March (not often, but it happens.)
If you want to avoid the crowds, go after Easter (April 8 in 2007).
It is lovely there usually in March, but that is most expensive and crowded time. Have a good time.

The Bahamas do tend to get touched during the hurricane season, but the thing with hussicanes is - you know they are coming ahead of time, not like earthquakes. People never ask about visiting California or the west coast of N America where earthquakes happen without notice.
I would use school breaks as the time NOT to go. Rather than weather.

No idea try the 2nd or 3rd week. I went on a cruise in 11th grade (It was the Senior trip) which I organized and presented as well as came up with ideas to raise money within 2 months of going. I went May 9th-13th 2005 and enjoyed it. PS WHEN YOU BUY SOMETHING IN THE BAHAMAS LIKE NASSUA THAN MAKE SURE YOU BARGIN WITH THE LOCALS AS IF YOU DON'T THAN ALL YOUR MONEY WILL GO FAST. I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE. Also visit Atlantis as it is very neat. Have fun.

I don't see anything wrong with you vactioning in March. Most people are afraid to visit the islands during hurricane season (June-November) but other than that anytime is pretty good to visit.

April or May. August is incredibly hot - the water is like a tepid bath. December is a little on the chilly side.
