Yes, probably the power supply.
Your monitor goes into "Standby" because it can't "see" your computer's signal.
The good news is that the power supply is one of the easiest and least expensive computer parts to replace. You can get one for $35 to $50 at MicroCenter or Fry's Electronics.
You will need to open your computer case at see the type / model of your current power supply. Try to buy one that has a higher wattage rating than your current one. (If your current one is a 450 watt, buy one rated at 550 Watts.)
If you have access to another on line computer, you can check out www.outpost.com
If you aren't handy with tools, you might want to get someone to help.
Good Luck!

soooo many possible answers.
could be your power settings, could be the power strip, could be the memory, could be a setting in the bios, could be your out of resources, could be a bad monitor, could be you have hibernation turned on.
Check your power options first, make sure to set everything to either never or a longer pariod of time, also uncheck to enable hibernation, and unless you actually have it connected to a ups make sure there isn't anything listed there.
Also check your lan connection settings from the sytem icon in control panel and go to device manager and check the settings to see if you have selected to "allow this device to wake the computer"
Also check your connection settings in both internet options and whatever other programs might be accessing the internet to make sure that they don't "disconnect when connection is no longer needed".

Sounds like your Power Supply Unit (PSU) is playing up. You might have to replace it.

Your ATX power supply is defective or your CPU fan is defective and hence you are facing overheating problems. Change whichever is defective.
