You don't have to take to a store!!! There are "secret" button combinations which will sort out "confused or frozen" iPods by forcing a reset. So as long as it's not physically damaged you can recover it. You don't say which model iPod you have as there are different combinations, but all require it to be powered up as you would when you charge it.
1st three generations - press and hold Play & Menu for six seconds.
Click-wheel iPods - press and hold Select & Menu for six seconds.
iPod Shuffle types - disconnect it from your computer and move the toggle switch on the back to off position, wait five seconds and turn it back on. For this and other problems there is an excellent article in the magazine - MacworldPlus iPod User 2006 which was on the shelves in the UK about Sept. Their website is:- www.macworld.co.uk

Throw it out! Then get a Sony Walkman. I had an IPod and it was rubbish! So much went wrong with it! It kept wiping all the music off it and freezing until I'd had enough and decided to give it away to my boyfriend. Then my boyfriend bought me a Sony Walkman MP3 for my birthday... No problems so far!

Yeah you must definitely go to an apple store. Make an appointment to see "a genius". Turn up for the appointment. Wait about 6 months to see the geeky mumbling nerdo freak. By that time they would have a brand new model. Ask for that one.
