I just bought my desktop sometime in July. When I used it for the first 2 weeks, it didn't really give me a problem but after a while, it kept restarting. We returned it to the computer shop where we bought it and they changed the hardware to a new one. So I thought that everything was fine but it wouldn't stop restarting. I brought it back to the computer shop and they said that nothings wrong with the computer and that my electrical power was messed up or something thats why my desktop keeps restarting but I don't believe them. What do you think is the problem here?

Sure, the power service in your home could be the cause. Low or high voltage as well as other things can make the computer power supply unstable. Before you call a professional to come check your wiring, you could try taking the computer to a friends. Use it there for a few days to see if the issues persist. This will give you more information about your wiring or a less than perfect computer shop.

A good power supply for your system may fix this and/or a power conditioner to regulate the power from your house

Your system is either overheating or the power supply in your cabinet is faulty. Change the power supply unit. If the problem still persists, cleam teh carbon off the RAM contacts and if teh problem still exixts, then its due to overheating. Overhaeting acn be caused by
The CPU fan is not working
Absence of a fan inside the cabinet (not inside the power supply unit)
The paste between the CPU and the heat sink is dry.
If you have hard disks then, teh hard disks are placed too close to each other.
If you have a PCI-E graphics card, then, its fan is not working.
The layout inside the cabinet is such that the hot air inside is not going out of the exhaust fan of th cabinet.
The exhaust fan inside the cabit has been connected in the wrong way i.e its not throwing out the hat air but getting teh outside inside teh cabinet.
Could be a few more reasons for over heating, but thats what I can think of now.

power options could be setup incorrectly, you could have a bad electrical line or power strip connected to the pc and it is out of "reset juice".
First go to the control panel and select power options, set all the options to never, then go to the hibernation tab and turn it off and also check the advanced tab and uncheck everything there. Then go to the display properties and go to the screensaver tab, uncheck the box "on resume password protect" and also set your screensaver to a simple one that doesn't require 3d graphics or something like it (blank, starfield, mystify etc.)
Leave it that way and see if it resolves your issue. If the pc keeps rebooting it could be some program you have running in the background that is set to reboot after an update or its using up all your resources and windows is rebooting or shutting down to "protect itself"

There may be a Ram problem if it is 2 ram in your cpu then remove 1 Ram from the slot, and make it on and run the system for some time if it is working properly then 1 Ram is problem, if its again restarting change the ram (again the same procedure remove the ram and insert the previous one)then check.if its again restarting means smps problem. there may be warranty for ram & smps just exchange it.

like punisher asked, does it always show a countdown before it restarts? you might not notice it cos it comes up as an alert and other windows might cover it up. if it's like this, you got yoursefl a worm (virus). There is a patch from microsoft's website to fix it.

Okay, this simple. You need to replace the power cables.
If there's a fluctuents in power surges then this may make your pc act irregular.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

You should reboot your computer. And then you should push a operating system disc then you should setup the operating system. Then you should format your C drive then setup the system. I think this will be give you a good result.
