Traditional gifts of paper stem from times when the first year of marriage was the toughest when it came to money.. couples usually had less money their first year of marriage.. so they gave gifts of paper because it cost less.. continue the tradition with something she'll never forget..BUT keep in mind the type of person that she is.
If she's a very sentimental person, give her a scrapbook that you've STARTED of your life together as a couple sofar.. start with copies of your wedding pictures (COPIES) and begin something beautiful for her.
If she's not really into things like that, have a special picture of the two of you framed in a nice frame.
If that doesn't float your boat, try a card, a nice dinner and a night out of the house doing something she likes to do.
Nothing yet? Get her a piece of Jewlery engraved with her name, or "I love you" .. something like that..

I narrate what I gve my wife on the first anniversary. you too can do so.
I gave her good saree and a titan watch. We went outside the city and had dinner in a posh hotel. We stayed in the hotel that night and did not sleep till morning. Guess what we would have done....! (sex, sex and sex 6 times)

A romantic candlelight dinner after a romantic movie and then a romantic walk on the beach or through the city after the dinner. Also a present, ring/necklace/roses/computer game. Whatever her heart fancies.

On my 1st wedding anniversary, my husband got me a recycled card and a paperback book about pioson and piosoners!! We also gave birth to our daughter on the day!!

In the morning make her breakfast in bed...all women LOVE that. Then after work, take her out to dinner and make her feel special. Maybe give her something to compliment her outflit, like a braclet or earings.
