The Earth is a relatively poor planet so we can only AFFORD one moon. Some larger planets with a thriving interstellar economy can afford several large moons and a few spares. There is a planet in the Goografron galaxy that is so rich everyone has their own moon. The space around the planet became so crowded that it blocked out their two suns, now their economy is collapsing. Be thankful we just have one.

It doesn't. There was another smaller orbiting body found a few years ago but it has yet to gain recognition. Also the number of moons an object can support is proportional to it's size, the pull of a large number of orbiting bodies would unbalance small mass planets. Also the larger a planet, the larger it's gravitational pull and hence the more things it would trap in orbit.

Chance really, Venus and Mercury have no moons, the moons of mars are just captured asteroids, so terrestrial planets, such as the earth don't really have the mass of obtains moons unlike the gas giants

Its just the way it worked out. the moon used to be a part of the earth, until we were hit by an asteroid and was blown to smitherines. the heavier (denser) materials are attracted to each other, and as the body gets bigger it pulls in more debris. the moon was just far enough away to not get completly pulled in by the earth. it sucked up a lot of the debris floating around earth and stayed in its orbit. all this was well before any life on earth. it just depends on what meterials are floating about and where. completly random.

moons form of nebuales and some gases and become with high pressuare inside its core, There was only one asteroid to hit earth and form a moon so it mayhave another one in the future but it only has one now!
