Jason Gillespie has been dropped after he scored a double-hundred in Australia's last appearance. Is this a first? Anyone recall a player being dropped after a very good "record-book" performance? I belive Naraendra Hirwani of India never played again, in spite of the fact that he picked 6 wickets in an innings in his last appearance.

Well, there have been a few instances - but not quite matching the above.

As recently as in 2005 Brad Hodge scored 203 against South Africa in Perth. But just after 3 matches, was dropped on form.

Mohd. Azharuddin scored a century against the South Africans in his last innings, but thanks to the match fixing scandal, he never got to play gain.

The most unfortunate would be Basil D'Oliveira - a brilliant South African-born cricketer who had made his home in England.

Immediately after scoring a superb 158 in the final test against Australia he was excluded from the England team picked to tour apartheid South Africa - apparently because of his race.

As far as I'm aware it's the first time ever.

Don't you think it's a little ironic that Australia are so hell-bent in finding an allrounder testing out guys like Watson and Symonds and they have Dizzy under their noses - who would also be the third best bowler for Australia of the past 20 years.

Some recent Aussie players he is ahead of for highest Test score -

Gillespie 201*

Boon 200
S Waugh 200
M Elliott 199
I Chappell 196
M Hussey 182
D Lehmann 177
D Martyn 165
M Waugh 153
M Clarke 151
S Katich 125

31 players have scored hundreds in their last match including A De Silva's 206 in 2002 (retired), and Azzarudin as was said.
