I'm with you on that. I have posted some serious questions before and they're not even been looked at, but give someone a fun, weird, stupid question and everyone is all over it. There has to be some people out there like you and me that do go to the trouble of answering the unique/real questions. It's not all just about points people it's about helping out your fellow friends. Make someone's day and actually answer something you wouldn't normally answer and do some research on it and you just might make someone's day or help them make a life style change. Get to it....

I guess it's because it takes more effort and time to answer real questions. Giving a well thought out and informative answer to a serious question is harder than telling someone what your favorite flavor of ice-cream is. Some people also seem to care more about the points they get than about helping someone.

Its a no brainer for the easy or dumb questions because its based on our personal tastes. Real questions need to be thought out to the best of answer person ability to articulate there thought s into cohesive sentences. Limited vocabualary could hinder this as well.

probably because they don't have the knowledge to answer more serious questions. i include myself in that group.
i try to stick with either totally ridiculous questions, or something i can actually provide information on. despite being decently educated and experienced in the world, i find i can answer the latter type much less frequently.
often a serious question asks about a very specific point in an area of knowledge

its easier
its also something to do while hunting for good questions.
it can be too heavy going just answering "serious" questions
I am hesitant to offer as "fact" something that I dont know much about, but most people are quite insistent that they are right even when their answers are not well thought out or researched.
it can be quite offputting having an obviously wrong answer selected as best, so you need something to break up the heavy and the light.

I try to answer both calibre of questions.
I think..maybe..it's because some people don't want to face up the the reality that sometimes life stinks.
Then again sometimes I am just so tired of getting into heavy, meaningful questions in college that I just want something light and carefree to think about.

Cheap points without having to do too much work.
Hard questions also require a bit of specialist knowledge, and if you don't know the answer you really shouldn't try just in case someone takes your answer as gospel.

Boredom, points, sometimes it is easier to answer a straight out question about your opinion which you already hold firmly than to take the time to think about something new.

becuase you dont need to think for a 2 point score......some questions are quite challenging to answer that even you give your professional opinion on it with all your knowledge... it is still not the best answer.... so better answer those dumb questions where you can also get the same corresponding point.....
