I have a similar problem when I go out with French people.
Try going out with closer friends and smaller groups, but force
yourself to speak the language you have problems with.
For example, going out with two other friends both of which
speak Mandarin and one of them is very quiet can be a good
solution. They will usually speak Mandarin and there'll be
plenty of silent moments for you to fill it.
But the most important thing is for you to try to be less afraid
of making mistakes. People will normally focus on what you
are saying instead of the way you're saying it.
