Im having trouble setting up Mario Kart DD (Gamecube) over LAN one has a Jap Broadband adapter?

Hi, I have 2 Gamecubes (UK), one with a Jap Broadband adapter. Im having trouble getting Mario Kart Double Dash working over LAN Mode, I checked places and ppl say the Jap adapter should work in any Gamecube. I tried crossover cable, normal cable from both gamecubes to a hub, still nothing. Checked cables, all ok. Is it the adapter?
