yes they are from middle earth.once knew of an elve by the name of legolas.

It could very well be...this time of year (between hte autumn equinox and the winter solstice) is a time when it is far easier to see mystical beings than at any other time, and elves are themost likely to be seen at any time, let alone this time of year. You might want to do some research into the matter. Nordic (viking) and Celtic (Irish, Brittish) lore contain many accounts of such beings.

I live in Ireland, and our "elves" are called "Sidhe".
Some people still see them, and I have been told that the Sidhe can't stand electricity, so they have been driven back more and more, and confined to their underground palaces, as have the leprechauns and the fairies.
