People who do critise 4x4 users do so without any ability to think out their argument. They wouldn't dream of attacking the package holidaymaker who gets on a plane for a one week hol burning 2-4000ltrs of fuel to get in the air, or the sales rep hammering his car up and down the motorway all day long just to try and get an order for his company doing 60-70,000 miles p.a., or the empty articulated lorry travelling 200-300 miles back to the yard empty cos it's company wont' do other work. There are loads of other fuel wasters but the one's making the argument don't seem to be able to see them.
P.S. Just pass this on to the whingers - Next time they leave the office make sure to turn off their P.C's and lights before they get into their 1000cc tin boxes as if they don't, they are no better.
They should remember that it is not the size of the vehicle, it is how it is used.

It's a simple predjudice. There is no logical answer as to why people don't like any car with 4 wheel drive. They'll give all sorts of answers about heavy fuel consumption, pollution, size etc, but these only apply if the vehicle has 4 wheel drive. Very strange. You can buy a car which will do 200mph, even though you don't 'need' one on public roads but that's OK. It's all down to 'dog in a manger' syndrom. "I don't want one, so no one else must have one, and I am always right". You pay to buy and run your car and caravan, don't take any notice of the anti 4X4 and anti caravan brigade.

They lump all 4x4 drivers in the same category. 4x4 were originally designed for taking accross land where 4 wheel drive was necessary and for towing large things. Now so many people have them everyone is criticized. People forget that there are genuine 4x4 drivers who need their vehicles. Me for example. We have a farm. We use ours for towing trailers and to go accross fields which we need to do regularly. I take my daughters to school and nursery in it as I am not going to buy a smaller vehicle just to run my kids there so I don't get slagged off for being a 'mum dropping off their kids of in a 4x4'. That would be a pointless waste of money and create even more pollution.
They are necessary for many users and unnecessary for a lot more, but without ours, work on the farm would be a lot more difficult. Of course we could take calves to market towing the trailer with the tractor as long as all those rush hour drivers are prepared to put up with being stuck behind it! Which would they prefer???

Most people that have 4x4s don't need them and SUVs have gotten much bigger since their popularity started to rise. The problem isn't the truck, it's the driver.
When people see enough bad drivers driving a similar type of vehicle, there will be a general consensus that these kinds of vehicles are the problems.
Try to remember back to the late 80s, the "worst" cars back then were the Camaros/Mustangs. Kids drove these massively powerful (for the time) cars and they didn't have enough experience to drive them properly so they were either a menace to other drivers or they wrecked their cars.
These people are now driving trucks and think that because the truck has 300hp, that they can drive it like their old muscle cars.

I presume that this is a wind-up question, but here we go anyway.
Caravans and their anti-social owners are the scourge of our roads at holiday times. They cause huge tail-backs and are an absolute menace.
Long lorries attract huge supplements on their road fund licences. Why can we not tax caravans at the same amount that we tax 4x4s? They take up as much room and quite clearly add to emissions - a car towing a caravan uses far more fuel than when it isn't.
It is about time that the shed pullers of this world saved the money they spend on their aesthetic monstrosities and paid for proper holidays.

its very simple, 4x4 generally cost quite a bit to buy and sad lonely people who dint have them, begrudge people who do. they also feel inferior when being looked down on by a higher vehicle. I dint own one but have driven them on and off road and some of them (landrover in particular) are truly amazing. You get better vision, more comfort, an advantage in bad whether, more safety and a nice vehicle.
people who knock them need to look into the facts (a modern 4x4 does not pollute as much as an L reg 1.4 Astra!! and if any pedestrian gets hit by any traffic anything could happen, depending on how they are hit.)they need to grow a brain of there own, insted of jumping on the band waggon.
people work hard to buy nice things!!
