From your description, I'm guessing that the symbol is actually a simplified picture of an engine.
If this is the case, that is the emissions system / engine management warning light. There is probably a problem with your emissions control system (failed oxygen sensor, loose connection, maybe even a failed catalytic converter). To find out exactly what the problem is, you'll need to take the car to a garage with the right computer diagnostics equipment (a Suzuki dealer, or the AA, or another well-equipped workshop). They can plug their equipment into the car's diagnostic system and find out what fault code it is registering.

For future reference, car warning lights are colour coded as follows:

Red - stop immediately. There is a problem that either makes the car unsafe, or which will cause further damage if you continue to drive.
Orange or yellow - warning. Something needs attention. Used for items turned on that you need to be aware of (rear demister, rear fog lamps) and non-safety-related items that require repair.
Blue - main beam headlamps
Green - any other items that you can turn on/off e.g. side lamps, front fog lamps.

The Jeep may be rougher ride but the two solid axles that make it that way also make it more durable. I have owned an '04 Vitara and had the rear axle seal go out on me after driving in conditions that you described on a daily basis. I had gear lubrication fluid everywhere not good. I did enjoy the ride a lot better and it was a very capable 4X4, but the durability was not there. As for the price of parts, I don't know since it was still under warranty. Since you drive alone most of the time an uncomfortable ride for your husband and other passengers from time to time will be an acceptable trade for a dependable vehicle. As for your dog there are several aftermarket companies that sell cargo area attachments for the Wrangler that will make it more comfortable and safer for your dog. Good Luck.

Suggest you go to a garage and find out if you do not have a manual. Lights do not come on just to look pretty.

It's a warning light. It's a yellow light to alert you to the fact you bought a LEMON!

Most probably you have switched on the de-mist/fogging button
Locate the switch, it has horizontal lines on it,
Push it once to switch it off
