As you have mentioned that you do not have the installation disk you can download and install the drivers for the printer from the web page.
If you are using any HP printer then visit the HP.com web site and at the bottom left of the web page you can see the option of Software&Drivers Download to download the drivers for the printer. Just enter the appropriate printer model you are using and then select the appropriate operating system you are using and then proceed with the installation process.

First of all go to the printer manufacturers site and download the driver for that model.
Then connect your printer to the power supply, and connect your printer leads to your computer but do not switch it on.
install your software and then switch on your printer windows should find the new hardware and complete the installation
Otherwise click on start, printers and faxes then add a printer and do it that way

No need to by drivers ,simply go to printers web site and download .They are usually in a section called "support".Failing that go to Driverguide.com.
You could also allow Windows XP to allocate a generic driver .

Windows has a whole load of built-in drivers, including "generic" ones, which usually work fine. However, it is always best to download the latest one from the device manufacturer, if you can.
