Here are some signs someone is conning you:
1. They are offering you a ridiculously large sum of money: if someone would offer you a large sum, why over e-mail?
2. They are asking for your bank account number. If anyone wishes to transfer money to your account, they wouldn't ask for your bank account number in such an unstable medium such as e-mail.
3. You don't know them and they are giving you money. Would you give money to strangers over e-mail?
4. They are asking for a small payment in return for a larger one. This is common in scholarship scams.
5. You don't know them and you have no real ties to them, yet they want to make business with you (for example: you're an engineer, they are supposedly in real estate.)
6. Any e-mail asking on a first-message basis for any sort of donation or personal info is most likely a hoax for your money.
Hope these helped!

Never open an e-mail from someone you don't know - how did they get your address if you didn't give it to them?
No company asks you for money via e-mail.
When you deal with a company you approach them, not the other way around. You request good or services from their shop on the high street or website store.
Anyone can set up an e-mail address and call it anything. The fact that the address appears to show a company, even one that exists on the high street, does not mean its real.

no companies should be requesting that you send them money over the web. If you get such an email then ring the company and ask for writen confirmation.
The number of times people just click and blindly follow the on-screen instructions is stupid..
Never assume that just cause the name or site look valid that their request is valid. check and check again.

If someone says that they want to give you money or if they want your money in their e-mails, it's a scam. For example, the emails that want you to hold their money from another country or others who tell you that they need money for an emergency or for business purposes.
It's pretty much common sense that's involved in sorting the trash from the genuine emails.
