I totally agree with you and I will never understand it.
Buy an unwatchable piece of crap for a fiver or wait a few months and get a brand new copy that plays properly, has the extras, a cover etc for £8 or 9 or wait a little longer and get it for a fiver (or rent it even cheaper). Me? I'll wait!
If you respect an actor/ director/ writer etc enough to think the film is worth watching them you aught to respect them enough to pay them for their work.
I don't work for free and I don't expect Jackie Chan, Martin Sheen or Stephen Spielberg to either! Just because Takeshi Miike gets paid more than me does not mean he doesn't deserve to get paid at all. I hate thieves!

Hollywood will never stop.
Actors and studios make a lot of profit.
Why do we pay to see Tom Cruise face in a movie?
Because we can. Don't get me wrong...i am totally against piracy.
Now think of your local rental store, the small one. How can they match the price and pay royalties, pay taxes and survive'
They won't. Piracy unfortunately affect directly the small businesses. Also some of the pirates will produce to fund illegal immigration, drugs, benefits Lords, even terrorism can be supported from illegal activities such as piracy.
If you buy, you are helping them.

I don't encourage people to pirate movies, but you can rest assured that Hollywood will never stop making movies. Even with all of the bootlegging that goes on, the entertainment industry makes money hand over fist.

because i know it costs less that fifty cents to produce the DVDs they sell for $20-30. Hell...a 4 disc season of the sopranos goes for $80!!! Less than $2 they spend on making the discs!

production and piracy both will co exist. despite the heavy cost involved in production the profit is also very high and it provides the daily bread for many a technicans and others involved, whereas piracy though illegal and to be discouraged will find the patronage from the weaker section of the society and by others who are interested in indiscreet things in life and avaricious of becoming rich by overnight through illegal means.

I think people don't have regard and appreciation for other people's work. They love the ACTION but hate the ACTOR.
But they fail to realize that, in order to keep the ACTION, they need to love and appreciate the ACTOR.
