Good question, I posed this question to David Cameron 2 days ago, I await a reply. I asked him what he would do about Sudan and Zimbabwe if he won the election. Email me if you want me to forward the response (if I get one lol)
In my personal opinion the failure of action is down to 2 factors.
1. National Interest, which we dont have because Zimbabwe doesnt have anything that we would like to exploit.
2. As a result of the disastrous African peacekeeping forces of the past Somalia in particular.
On the other hand we have another Rwanda on our hands right now in Sudan and yet again the world stands by and watches. Its a disgrace to humanity, and I am ashamed of our leaders.

basically Mugabe can answer that yet he's so insane you does not get a comprehensible answer.somewhat, outdoors Zimbabwe Mugabe continues to be seen as some sort of hero extremely than the insane egoistical dictator he's. only seem on the reaction he's had from the South African political hierarchy. even while their very own united states and voters are threatened with ailment and mass unlawful and criminal immigration that's earning criminal gangs a fortune they do no longer seem to be prepared to act. After the Iraq fiasco we don' have quite some a checklist for installation stable democracies. in line with threat we would desire to constantly have marched into Zimbabwe contained in the 1st place and saved out of Iraq, yet even then we does not have been looked as though it would be contained in the main appropriate no count number if we've been or no longer. i ask your self what our acceptance could be then? we would nevertheless be seen as an aggressor by many and that i do no longer think of China or Russia might approve. What ever action is taken in those circumstances we are going to finally end up at fault.

South Africa will not act because:
a) Mbeki the presedent is related by marriage to Mugabe, and
b) They are corrupt and racist anyway.
The UK government should have acted before now instead of wrongfully wasting national resources by invading Iraq, paying millions to Europe and wasting further millions on 'aid' to the bottomless pit that is Africa.
However since Zimbabwe is a 'democracy' (ha ha ha), there is no world opinion to force action. Also big business has no interest in the matter. In short there is nothing material to be gained from any intervention in Zimbabwe. Whilst this is sickening to most decent people it does at least show where our government stands on the moral side of things. In short, they are totally immoral. But you probably knew that anyway.
There is a case for taking action against Mugabe especially as many white Zimbabweans have strong ancestral links to Britain.
It is interesting to note that all through the years of sanctions and the bush war, Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) maintained a viable economy. The worst efforts of Harold Wilson and his inept labour government could not destroy it.
Now with no sanctions, no war and access to world markets, Zimbabwe is bankrupt.
Makes you think doesn't it.

Have just read. John Le Carre's latest " Mission Song" As in The Constant Gardener" etc. dealing with Africa. He tells the story . Presently our Government is not remotely interested there are no riches to be gained. They are very busy with the total mess in Iraq, Afghanistan. Bush is also not interested - Palestine also starves .Lebanon bombed .Africa another shameful situation. Power against those with none. Let them starve. A good question which shows that some people are interested but there is so much to speak out about to our " Government" and the other power maniacs.

Should they?
Why isn't France/ Germany / Italy/ America etc etc doing anything about Zimbabwe? Why is it specifially the job of the British government?
If they tried to "do anything" they'd be accused of interfering in another country's affairs.
Its not up to Britain to get involved in what other countries do (Blair should never have got us involved in Iraq). If there are human rights abuses going on, should'nt it be a case for the United Nations?

Great question and one that needs answering by the British Government after all Mugabe is no different the Sadam Hussein.
He is slowly destroying his country in order to make himself and his friends wealthy and he needs stopping before he goes on the run like Idi Amin did.
I have noticed that even America seems to ignore what is happening and we need to do something about this now otherwise, we will all have to pay for rebuilding another country.
He (Mugaba) and his "friends" need removing by force,by maybe South Africa or one of the other African Nations and made to stand trial before it is to late.

No oil. SA isn't doing anything either but that is because their government is corrupt and they are doing to land grabbing thing there too. Also they are big mates with Mandela and thus the problem - they don't want to fall out with him. So Mugabe and his cronies will keep getting away with starving and killing the opposition.

Possibly because they believe everything they are told by zimbabwian officials.
This government has already bungled things up, but i agree they need to take action, and bump the president off

it is because :
1) No oil in Zimbabwe.
2) White farmers with British roots can always
come to settle in the UK anyway.
3)Black Zimbabweans , who cares?
