I started lining my eyes a couple years ago. I had no intention of being "emo" or "punk" yet it seems many people get the impression I am. I guess it's because I also wear hoody sweaters and jeans on a daily basis? Anyway, I don't really want to force the image, but...

Does black eyeliner look good or bad? Keep in mind I have dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, and olive colored skin....(I've seen a pale blonde girl wear it, and it looks horrible on her- it's too dark for her. So I'm wondering if it looks that bad on me and I don't realize it.)

Since you have dark hair and a warm undertone to your skin, it should look all fine and dandy. I personally adore black eyeliner, and it looks best on those a bit darker in every category. If you want to minimize the "emo" comments, I'd probably check it out closely and wonder if maybe you're putting on too much. Some girls unfortunately put it on so thick on the top, it looks so sloppy and horribly scene/emo. I would also maybe try liquid liner; it's more streamlined and definitely not punk or emo. If you're no good with liquid, some have felt tips which make it a bit like a fine marker rather than those teeny brushes. A cheap, long-lasting one is Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in blackest black. :]

Most people I know seem to wear black eyeliner... maybe you are putting too much on? That's all I can think of. I rarely line the bottom lid, because it's too hard for me to do it without putting too much on. I've found that if I just line the top lid and follow with eyeshadow, it looks great.

there's nothing wrong with black eyeliner. it can look good or bad depending both on how well you put it on and skin tone/ hair color/ etc... can also determine what makeup you should wear. Although I'm gonna go with that these people are just being judgmental and they can't bear to acknowledge that not just emos and punks wear black eyeliner that it's actually quite common.

I like the lined eye look, but think it's more suited to evening/night. Also, black can sometimes appear too strong or harsh or "punk" as you say, so why not try navy or brown. I use both colour liners - Benefit lining pencils & they look much softer. Plus if you smudge it a little at the corners of your eyes it can look really nice

Well, i think that black is the best color for eyeliner because it can fit into anything. It definitely look good since u can even get the image without forcing it!

I wolud suggest you to first apply an eye shadow suitable to your skin but not too dark and then apply a thin line of eye shadow on the upper eye lid
If you're still not happy then go in for silver or dark grey eye liners ( pencil )
