Colin Powell, Kofi Annan, Chris Patten um mm. Sure there is a few more but cannot think of them.

Colin Powell - a real statesman
Kofi Annan - the best UN Sec-Gen in a long time.
Chris Patten - proved in HK, N. Ire. and EU that he is more than capable, although his health has suffered as a result.

In UK the first 2 would get votes, but not the 3rd.
Worldwide, if we had election campaigns, there would not be much to choose between them.

I assume you mean those capable of doing the job today.

I would vote for anyone that turned this world back around to the 'good old days'. Ok, theres always been and going to be crime etc, but not to the level that this world has got to now. Anyone that can bring our crime level down, bring some discipline back, sort the NHS out, etc, stop all the 'claims/suing people' that now go on, would certainly get my vote. Why do the peolpe that are in 'charge' now, not do what us the public want to happen? They would all get our votes then. Unless of course you're one of the 'spongers' ,'criminals' or 'immigrants' that are now getting a good deal from the leaders. Then of course, they would obviously vote this 'leader' back in.

The one world renowned figure who is recognised and respected by most of the world's population is probably Nelson Mandela. I would pick him for that reason alone. Also because when he was personally involved in "terrorism" as part of the freedom struggle against South African Apartheid the targets chosen were done so on the basis of minimising the loss of life. To my knowledge no one was killed in the campaign that led to his imprisonment.

Mandela is probably the one person with the moral standing and authority to lead a world government. It is a great pity that he is now so old and will not be with us for much longer.

I think it would be a very bad idea to only have one leader as it wouldnt matter how nice they were to start with the power would surely go to their head and it would be a horrible nightmare, but if I had to choose someone I would choose Sean Connery he is an amazing man and I would trust his judgement on anything.

"the question is moot!" - Jesse Jackson from his only SNL appearance.
Seriously, there could never be a one world government, we can;t even keep this country together, Mexico is nearing a civil war, Dogs and Cats wont share the same bed.....see where I going with this?
I know there are people out there who dream of a "new world order" (ask the John Birch Society), but it would never work, we would have WWIII.

The Pope, as the head of the Roman Catholic Church, leads one third of the worlds population.

Definitely not Nelson Mandela as stated earlier, why do non South Africans always forget that Nelson Mandela is a convicted murderer/terrorist responsible for the deaths of hundreds of white South Africans, if he was so wonderfull why didnt he rather choose a pacifist route like that of Ghandi??
I would choose Margaret Thatcher if shes still sane!! I think there must be a balance between between conservative and being liberal, I think she was centre right and thats what necessary in a world riddled by crime, poverty and disease!!

Bono...Nelson Mandela...Barack Obama...Food Network's Alton Brown...Steve Martin.

The first two because of what they've done as far as bringing world issues that get put onto the back burner back up front.

The third because a fresh voice would do a lot of good in the world, and new ideas could carry us a long way. Also, people in their sixties don't reflect the values of those younger voters.

The fourth because a good meal can go a long way in getting two sides to agree.

And the fifth simply because it'd be funny to have Steve Martin as a world leader.
