We broke up over 4 years ago now, and he was a pretty major part of my life - for the wrong reasons. We were together for 8 years on & off - we kept breaking up over his drug use (mainly pot, then harder stuff). The thing is, I am completely over him. He is married now with a baby, I am engaged getting married next year, and love my fiance 100% more than I ever loved him (I even contemplated whether I actually loved this ex or not, judging by how I love my fiancee), I am completely happy with my life, so why am I keep dreaming about the ex? My fiance is NEVER in my dreams, that's baffling me too!!

Dreams don't necessarily mean what you're dreaming about. Don't always take them for face value. No one really knows exactly what dreams mean or what dreaming and REM sleep is actually for, but there are many theories about it. Anyhow, to put it all in a nutshell, your brain is in fact very active while you are in REM (dreaming) sleep, and continues to think, take into account what happened throughout your day and process it all, including things you may have learned. Don't get too freaked out about dreaming about your ex, it doesn't mean that deep down inside you still love him (if you know you don't) or that you're supposed to find him or something, it could honestly just be that you subconciously wonder about him, and it's just your brain processing information. Maybe there is something unresolved about that time in your life or that relationship that you are having to continue sorting in your dreams; possibly feelings or thoughts that have been suppressed. Or, maybe something has happened or triggered the memory of him being in your life, or posibbly the struggles you endured during the time he was in your life, or similar feelings that you felt then. Look a little deeper into when you started having these dreams, what your ex or the events and time in your life signified. Maybe you're subconsious self is trying to incorporate something it's trying to tell you in your dreams. Think about it..how else is your brain and that other side of yourself able to get through to you except through your dreams? What is that side of yourself trying to tell you? That's just the way I look at it.

Pot is nothing. You don't break into someone's home to steal their TV to get your pot fix. Pot is no worse then smoking cigarettes, if anything it's better because it has no addictive chemicals added like cigarettes do. Cocaine is the bad stuff. Maybe you have regrets about leaving him for somthing that isn't even that bad. You see him happy with his family and think that it could have been you. You probably want a family because he has one. Either way, he's in the past now and you say you are even more in love with the new guy your with, so focus on your relationship with him. Personally, I think you still want your ex to be a part of your life, but it's too late now. I don't get what the big deal is with pot.To me it's the same as drinking a cup of tea. It's something you do to unwind after a long day of work. It's very relaxing and it's not addictive like nicotine. You don't get irritable if you don't have any and you don't steal to have some more. One is able to hold down a good job while still being a pot smoker. Where as people who get addicted to Cocaine or other stuff flake out and miss work a lot. I guess it's just my Canadian mentality.

you dont dream about your current fiancee because there's nothing wrong there. it's all good. so your subconscious mind isnt concerned with him so it doesnt get into your dreams. thats my opinion anyway, not sure what an analyst would say...

you still dream about your ex because it was a torment, youre still effected by it - in a bad way. over him, fine. never loved him, fine. but he had a serious impact on your life.
