Isn't it bad enough in this world that we have to pay taxes for figures such as royalty in the UK , Spain and other monarchies. I mean film stars are paid so much money that 99% of regular people will not match that kind of pay check of a movie star on just one movie in Hollywood. (3 to 10,000,000$ on average) what is going on here? Surely they could live a decent life on just 200,000$ a movie. We all have basically the same needs don't we?

I agree with Monsieur here. It is about time these obvious feelings about exceptionally high paid stars (and not just actors) be brought out into open discussion. Clearly it bugs us because its unfair. I agreed with almost everyone's point of view here. (But brum, well let's not even.. ) and people who say they expect a high salary if the film will make millions are totally missing the point of the question maybe) The film industry pay should be regulated, no doubt about that. If people lobbied their politicians.. But then we'd need cap the earnings of Bill Gates and the likes too. Teachers and nurses should be paid more YES I AGREE.

Although I see your point I do disagree on the priciple that the movie will bring in millions of dollars - the big stars are one of the main reaosn for this as they draw in the audiences and the money with them - so why shouldn't they get a fair cut of the money, how ever much this happens to be? If the actors were being paid less I doubt this qwould add to the money spend on the movie, or their quality - it would just mean even more money in the pockets of the executives and producers who make the movies.

Sometimes I feel the same way ... but I think when you, me, or anyone is overly concerned with what others legitimately make at least part of that is because we feel undervalued.

Like it or not society puts the value on each of us using rules or even people's whimsy that is totally out of our own control.

Since there is really no other way to decide worth but what other people think and are willing to pay for something, that is the road that our system takes in rewarding people.

Though I agree with you I think the only way to change this is by changing ourselves and figuring out a better way to do thing and getting everyone else to buy into it. Obviously that is probably not going to happen, but there are paradigm shifts in human thought and someday we will progress to something better that is not obvious right now, meanwhile, since the world is not perfect or to your liking, become politically aware and active and try to explain what you think as you have in this question, find like minded other people, and have your effect in life.

Some of the stars now work a deal where they get a percentage of the films profits.
Tom Cruise allegedly got $75million from Mission Impossible, and Keanu Reeves got $77million from The Matrix by doing that.
It's just obscene to get paid that much, but all audiences have to do is vote with their feet, and stop going to see these overpaid goons at the cinema.

If they weren't worth it as a resource to the film-makers and financiers then they wouldn't get paid it. It's simple economics. However, these are obscene amounts of money that you are talking about.

But it isn't just actors who benefit, I pay over 30 quid a match to watch players on upwards of 30k a week!!! One or two of which earn in excess of 80k a week!!

The only way to bring some control to it would be to introduce a sliding tax scale, but even with this, it would have to be a global thing or people would just become tax-exiles in other countries.

But look at it this way; If you won £6m on the lottery would you hand £4.5m back or give it to charity as £1.5m should cover your needs?

If you can honestly answer 'Yes' then I truly admire your conviction.

i totally agree with you, and have stated the same thing on other answers. the celebs, politicians, sports players, and others' salaries are way over the top. in my opinion, it's just obscene. it's all about status and popularity. yes, most of them are very talented ppl, but bfd. lol. the working stiffs who keep it all running are getting nowhere faster than ever before.
i'm a single mom, who has worked 2-3 jobs for over 20 years, while raising 3 kids...one of them adopted and seriously mentally ill. i've made enough money to barely keep my head above water. now i'm disabled due to 2 injuries on the job a few years ago, and i am fighting the gov't for ssi benefits while i slowly sink deeper and deeper in debt...can't even afford the $1200 to file bankruptcy. lol. the whole celeb "thing" just doesn't make sense to me. unfortunately, i don't see any way it's ever going to change as long as star struck ppl continue to slobber over the celebs and iconize them. i think there should be industry standards for salaries, just like there are for the rest of us "normal" ppl.

They are paid absurdly, I would agree. However, they are put in the public eye constantly, work schedules the average person wouldn't even imagine, and have other's (like producers, film companies, etc) make way more money on them that they will ever see. So in essence they are paid accordingly. . .even if it is an absurd figure like millions of dollars for one film!

Better the actors get it ,then the movie producers /and/or studio owners who do nothing except own the studio or production company.
There is a lot of money paid out at the movie theaters, drive -ins,DVD sales..etc..actors should get their fair share.

It is very unfair. I don't agree with "stardome"...

I can understand the "hassel" of being a celebraty. The taboileds, personal appreances, charity work... blah blah blah...

Shooting a film for 6months should not mean that one single person can get a pay check for millions...

you know who should be making the big bucks... teachers...
