i personally haven't but i've had tons of friends who's done that, mainly from America and various Eastern Europe countries. it's had to say "how was it", but generally speaking most of them got great host families. Europe is so multicultural that the possibilities are endless... you can au pair for people from all sorts of nationalities. A Polish friend of mine au paired for a little Dutch boy and he is a darling. An American friend of mine in Belgium stayed with a Jewish family... they were also great, but of course the challenge is to keep the food in the house kosher. Then she shifted with an English family, so that was quite a switch.

Don't ask too many questions, there's only so much to answer. Just a word of advice: Europe is beautiful, but it's not heaven and it won't be sunny days every day. If you come just to have fun and "wait and see what comes along", forget it. But if you come with the goal to survive and become a better person, every step you take there will be gold. If your heart is set on it, ask your friends to refer you to a host family, book your flight, get your au pair visa, pack your bags and go!
