Hi,
I'm interested in both IT and being an electrician. Which would be
a good choice and why?

I have always seem to adapt to electrics by fitting plugs since I was about 8-10 years old and repairing switch on my mums vacuum cleaner as an adult, but would like more exposer to
electrics(mainly electrical installation).

The advantage with electrical installation is that you travel whereas
with IT your stationary.
Any suggestions?

Regards,paul

I would say become an electrician. Manual labour is highly sort after nowadays such as plumbing, gas engineers etc. This is where you can make the most money and these sort of things are always going to be in demand. Most people today prefer IT, office jobs, retail work etc. I would definately go with becoming an electrician. My husband is a heating engineer and in that trade, companys are screaming out for workers.(and the pay is good, but can depend on where you live)

I used to be an electrician. I have about 3 years of experience and the demand for engineers are high. You should consider becoming an electrical engineer. They pay very good money and industries will always need electricians. I have no degree but have three years of experience. A company recently offered me $16 an hour as a pipe conduit fitter starting out at a lower position in the company. That is pretty good pay for someone who doesn't have a college degree. As an electrician the industry does not provide you with tools. You will have to provide your own work tools for the job. I am currently pursuing an IT degree but will most likely double major. Maybe you should think about it too. My advice is to do a job your are passionate about doing. Do something you're interested in. You will be a lot happier doing a job that pays less that you like than a job that you hate that pays you more.

Well this could help..........I dont wont to sound like a telemarketer or anything but if your looking for a break and financial freedom..then this is it. I have been looking for a job for a long time now...and I had pretty much given up with the whole working at home thing. Well I had put a question on yahoo just like you...and I got so mnay responses, half of them were scams, until I clicked on the right one. It is a company called AMERIPLAN that sells discounted dental, vision, chiropratic, and prescription cards saving people up to 80% on their visits. This isnt insurance, but it SAVES SO MUCH. We are in with the BBB and have been on 60 minutes. Your income is residual..meaning your are constantly making money. I hope you look into this, because I swear to you this is not a scam. Spread the word about it...and if your interested visit my website or email me @ cam_smw_kmm@yahoo.com

Well I'm in IT and the train has left the station, the market is flooded. Everyone needs work doing on their houses and so electrician, plasterer or Corgi registered gas fitter would all pay way More than IT

I'm an IT technician in a school... which involves me messing around with the insides of computers. Also we get problems about things which have plugs on them... almost anything with a plug is our responsibility...

there is a certain amount of job satisfaction, but the kids get to me... so maybe a technician role in a company would be better?

Hope this helps!

IT you can make more money as technologies change but the downside is you are likely to get stuck behind a desk. You are right taht being an electrician you get out and about more and gt to see a few more places. But I think IT lends itself more to career changes and getting promotions.
