I have the firplace ready to go and I bought some raw chestnuts in the produce department. Now what do I need to do?

I am not being sarcastic. I don't want them like shooting across the room or something! Is there a special way to do it or do I just stick them in a cast iron skillet over the fire? I just want some advice....no smart remarks!!!!.

Sounds loveley, make sure you make a slit in them first or they will pop! What you got sounds ideal or you can get wire chestnut baskets to cook over open fire. (15-20 mins) Eat straight away or they will harden and become impossible to peel, If this happens you can put them back on fire to soften. Chestnuts `go off` very quickly so make sure you store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Hope this helps. xx

The cast iron is always a good choice, hope you already conditioned it or it will SMOKE up the house.

I think years ago, people just placed them in front of the fire and fished them out with a long pincer tool.
