Sometimes I wonder if people think they will ketch whatever the disability is?
People do not understand what it is like to have medical problems, either being in a wheel chair or having a mental condition, unless them themselves have a close family member or they themselves have the problems....
Sometimes it is best to keep the mouth shut, specially on the computer where people do not need to know one is disabled.
One of our health problems I went to talk to others about in a group atmosphere. I am typical with this medical problem however the people in the group seamed shocked by my behavior. Being this is typical of this condition I was quite amazed at the negativity that was directed my way. This is fine by me and just stay away from that group.
We have to learn that not everyone is excepting. We do make people uncomfortable.
My son has a form of autism (this runs in the family). Great kid but I do not tell everyone of his medical conditions. Therefor I get so many nasty stares and the comments when we are out in public (when we do go out in public) just amazes me! Sometimes I wonder how people can be so ignorant!
It does hurt, just remember people in general are not nice and kind, like people like to think. We have to look for this and hang on to those people who have this trade!
Good luck and those open chat rooms sometimes are not the best place for "real" meaningful relationships....

Look for quality, not quatity. If someone chooses to avoid you, it is a reflection of who they are and is not about you. Surely you have encountered some kind and interesting persons to chat with.
Why give others that are in cyberspace the power to hurt your feelings? If you are determined to enjoy life and to have a great time meeting new people, then you shall. If you are determined to be a victim and to feel sorry for yourself, you shall.
It doesn't matter why people don't want to be friends with you. You cannot change them. Seek out and find people that are willing to be your friends rather than expend energy pondering why others aren't.
Follow your bliss and enjoy life!

I'm not afraid to chat with disabled people. My father was born with a birth defect. His one hand never developed and he had a stump with five small bumps on it. He did more than one person did with two hands. He played baseball, the trumpet, had a 285 bowling average. His hand was normal to me. When he died and his sister told the funeral director to hide the hand, I almost snapped her neck. That hand was what made my dad extra special. He used to cut my hair. Since he is gone I cut it but it is way too long. I don't trust anyone else to do it.

I think people may be intimidated. It can be tricky getting to know someone with a disability because you could be scared to say the wrong thing or ask the wrong questions. I go to school where there is disabled people, but i myself have no problem with disabled people. i think theyre just like anyone else and i dont see them any different. because i know that they have feelings too

People see themselves in you and what they might become. They are fearful. Most of them would never have the courage that you do. What they don't realize is they are already handicapped by their prejudices. Please don't be hurt and realize that their are more people out there then those you have met on line. I have no physical handicaps and yet I find myself needy in other ways. Once you show your neediness your "friendships" may be doomed. Best of Luck and heal those wounds. For now they are only superficial.

because unfortunately some people only see the disability and not the person! I dated a guy who was handicap once and he was soo cute he was just in wheel chair, but we called it quits after he moved away for college! were still good friends

I would say in general, It's because they are uneducated idiots. They have no knowledge of disabilities and are affraid to admit it so it's just easier for them to blow the person off instead of learning that they have one too. It's called stupidity!

Because people are ignorant and don't care about others feelings. I've had a disabilty all my life but you learn to cope with it and don't let it bother you. If people don't care I wouldn't give them the time of day. Show them your a bigger person than they are.
