I don't want to pry but why is it alot of married women refused to cook for their husbands on holidays they would rather go to someone else house to eat. And do you think that the husbands ever get tired of this?

Some people are just too tired to deal with all the work cooking and cleaning up when they have already spent their time at work all week.

Other people like to spend time with friends on special days. That means going to someone else's house to eat.

In some families the women grow up going to a relative's house every holiday, so they continue this tradition when they marry. Young married couples have to alternate which family they spend the holidays with so the wife never has a chance to cook for her husband.

It's not always about "cooking for your man" (an outdated concept, anyway) but it's about "family politics." I would LOVE, (and I mean LOVE) to stay home and cook if it meant not having to drive two and a half hrs. to see his family, eat dry turkey, and talk about everyone's health problems, financial problems, who's losing a job, who can't keep a job, how bad the kids are, and other generally miserable topics. Don't get me wrong, I love his family, but they DO NOT know how to enjoy a holiday, laugh and joke, and be thankful (for a change). BUT, if we didn't go, and just decided to stay home one year with just us, we would NEVER hear the end of it. Of course, we have had a couple of holiday meals at our house, but the family's misery just follows them here, and, on top of it, there's all the criticism to deal with as well. (But, hey, at least the food was good and the turkey wasn't dry.) I've talked to other women about this, as well, and the same generally applies. They wish they could just stay home and cook for their husband and children, (in fact, a big topic around holiday time among women my age where I've worked, mid to late 20's and early thirties, is when is it "okay" to STOP going to the in-law's house, or your parent's house, and have holiday dinners on your own) but instead they have to keep the extended family happy, and travel half the day because "tradition" dictates holiday dinners are always at "Grandma's house," or "Aunt Betty's house", etc. So, I don't think it's laziness for a lot of women, just "family politics."
BTW, when we do have holiday dinners for the family at our house, my husband and I BOTH cook together. What's wrong with that?

I never knew that a lot of "married" women didn't want to cook for the holidays? Answer this...why would they want to cook for their husbands for the holidays when they cook for them every day of the week anyway? Also, who says we are cooking for our husbands?? Maybe we cook for ourselves, children, friends, or other family members for the holidays! Maybe we're hoping we'll get a bottle of wine or flowers out of it! Pretty vague question there.

lol I hate cooking for the holidays because it pisses me off that I have to get up at 5 am to stuff the turkey, then make everything else and stay up all day and be all ready and pretty for the in laws to show up and my husband gets to sleep in till noon, get up, wander around for two hours in his underwear, watch football until ten minutes before the in laws are supposed to arrive get dressed and when you ask for some help with dinner or the kids, he groans and whines that he's tired. That's why we married women love to go and eat turkey day dinner at some other poor saps house and watch them have to do it. Lol

I would assume the reason for this is married women need a break! Especially a stay at home mom. A lot of working wives/moms too. They cook for their family every day, sometimes several times a day, so give 'em a break and let them sit back, relax, and eat someone else's good cooking for a change. ;-)

It depends on the husband and th joy that you get from just cooking. I love to make huge meals and often did, but then I love large extended families and I love cooking. I think if you are not happy with the idea you go to friends houses or to a restaurant. Such is life.

Why don't the men cook for the women? Give them a break from all they do the rest of the year. How dare a man ask me to cook an extra big meal and he sit around all day watching football!!! Then I have to clean it up too??? NO WAY!!!

best reason is they deserve a break from cooking on holidays, same as your husband would deserve a break from work on workdays.

and if you love the idea of cooking at home on holidays, no one is stopping you, but why don't you implement this newest idea--both you AND your husband cook together on holidays! :)

I have never refused, but I am at the age now that it is my turn to do the holidays.... I am a grandmother and my family, mom, dad , siblings and rest all live in Texas..... I live in Louisiana...... so, maybe other women dont refuse, they are just waiting for their turn at it.......... God bless and happy Thanksgiving
