It's my own stupid fault I know, but I took a temp secreatry job a week ago that was supposed to run up to Christmas. I hated it so much (general unpleasantness) that I just stayed a week. I rang the agency and left a message to say that my gran had died over the weekend (my excuse not to go back to the job, and although it sounds a lie, it isn't really, as she died 9 years ago!) and I therefore had to travel 300 miles away for the "arrangements". I am now in another temp job (a different agency) and I'm happier and being paid more. Meanwhile, the other agency left a message asking if I'd like to go back to that "unpleasant" job next week after the funeral. What shall I say? Shall I say that I had to take on work all these supposed 300 miles away, as there's a lot of sorting out to do with my gran still or what? I do still want to be with this agency (for back up), but don't want to go back to that awful job!

Tell them that while you were away, another agency called you on your mobile, offering you this assignment. Assuming that the first agency would have found a replacement for the unpleasant assignment and wishing to be back at work ASAP, you accepted the other offer. You are very sorry and will be it touch with agency no 1 as soon as your current assignment has ended.
Do not say about a job 300 miles away - implausible and too easy for you to get caught by a phone call to home in the evening.

I would say that you are too upset to work at the moment, but you will be available after Christmas.
Or, just tell them that your grans death has made you think about things a lot, and you were just not happy there. Temp agencies usually appreciate the truth about the working conditions etc, that way they can place a temp who is more suited.

Call the agency and basically tell them the truth. You did not like the previous job and that you felt uncomfortable enough to have to lie to them. Do mention that you would still like to be on their books but that you would not consider future positions with the previous Company. Also if you do have a minimum salary that you are prepared to wait for - tell them that as well - don't sell yourself short - it is amazing how often they come back with a job that is suitable for you and for which you would not mind becoming a permanent member of that company's staff.

Just say "No thanks" When you got back another agency gave you a call and the job was better.
I take it you are young? As you get older you'll understand that you are just fodder for agencies, and you are probably only being offered the job back as the person they sent in to replace you has also dumped it.

just tell them that aside of your nan problems you have been reluctant to go back in to that particular placement because you never felt comfortable. tell them that you appreciated their help and you wish to still be in their records, but you are looking at another job that was recommended by a friend that you wish to try out, just say it is closer to home aswell or something! that way you have still told them the truth and hopefully not have offended them. but dont put up with working places you do not like hun, you spend most of your time there so you need to be happy!! x

as a temp you don't have to take a job where your not happy. just tell them that you thought about it and decided that the job wasn't working out for you but have them keep you informed about anything else but in the meantime you will keep looking on your own

Tell the agency you had a conflict at the other job and prefer not to return.
Honesty is always the best policy. It teaches people they can trust you.

You don't have to say anything.Simply tell them that you are not interested in the job any longer and can they pay you the one week wages for the work that you have already done.

Well, you told a lie, so you have to either:
a) back it up, or
b) let them know that you are liable to lie to get out of awkward situations.
if you choose b), it will not endear you to them for future assignments.
better if you had told them the truth in the first place
